Well, My tax check came back JUST in the nick of time. Monday I went up to Guitar Center and rebuilt my system from the ground up.
I got two of the EON 315, the Yamaha MG166CX and Two Shure wireless SM58s.
The St Patty's day party at the Seahorse Inn was Tuesday, so I ended up busting my butt to get the system together for Monday night's show at Hops. Well, mission accomplished with only minutes to spare before I had to pack it all up and head out to the bar.
Things went pretty smoothly considering the amount of "play time" I had with the new stuff before I was actually using it in a show.
Next, was the Seahorse. Man, what a day! I got there at 11am to set up. I was getting paid from 3 to 1pm, but I knew this was going to be complex as there was a tent outside... and then the bar owner asks, "can you put a speaker downstairs too?"
"Sure!"
I ended up using the amp and speakers from my old system, jacked into the board through the monitor channel. Not real happy with that set up, but that's what seemed to work. I then setup a third powered speaker as a vocal monitor through the headphone jack... not the best solution, and if anyone has an idea of where I jack in for a third speaker I'd love to know. The manual for this thing sucks!
Technical issues aside, it all worked and sounded great. Whew!
This was a DJ/ KJ event. I played the traditional Irish stuff mixed with some soft rock till after dinner, then about 7 I kicked it up a noch with "Whiskey in a Jar" by Metallica... heh.
From there on, it was serious party. This bar has two levels, a deck, and a "shore area" with picnic tables, plus they set up a tent in the parking lot too!! It was wall to wall people all evening! We sang karaoke, danced and had a great time... till 1am.
I have to say, that was the hardest I've worked at a gig ever. Good thing I had that big plate of corned beef a cabage before the show, cause I didn't eat till I got home!
The owners were much pleased, thanking me, and telling me what a great job I did (oh, and I was paid WELL! Ha!
)
Man, talk about a trial by fire! What an incredible day.
