Hey all, I am having a huge problem with compuhost. I have the latest version, and it has always ran beautifully. Never a glitch at all. The other night I was doing a dance party gig using virtual dj for video display to several tv's in the bar. A couple of customers where requesting Karaoke, and I was happy to supply that for them. I minimized virtual dj, and opened Compuhost. I got a video error of some kind, and have not been able to get compuhost to display on the external monitors since then. Any ideas?

I'm not a computer geek, but if virtual dj is still running, and using the monitors, that could explain the reason for the video error. What happened after closing virtual dj?

After turning off virtual Dj the problem persists. It seems like it over rode the graphics out put from Compuhost, and won't allow them to turn back on.

I have been trying to find a way to get ahold of compuhost, but haven't been able to find a website for them. Know how to get in touch with them?

Go to Karaokeware.com. Then click on support to contact Compuhost support.

I have found that every time I hook my laptop up to my second monitor if I already have my laptop on then I have to restart it for the computer to recognize it. I think I read this same problem from someone else. if you had your video going to a different program then tried compuhost it probably just needs reset. Thats why I was wondering about playing customers discs on my drive. Cause it seems like if I did have the A/B switch then everytime I switched it I would have to restart my computer. Just a thought as I'm still learning.

I have gone as far as uninstalling compuhost and reloading it to reset everything, and it still has the same problem

Try deleting the "default.cfg" in the Compuhost program folder. This will allow you to start from scratch. Be sure to have your second monitor hooked up and functioning (Windows wallpaper showing) before relaunching CH after deleting the config file.

good luck

"I threw my desktop out a third story window. Then, I drove my car over it...twice. Then, my pet elephant Stanley pooped on it. Now it won't boot.... there must be a problem with Compuhost."

....End user's complaint viewed through the bi-focals of a Windows Developer.

Check your video card settings with regard to your second monitor. Some video cards (nvidia and ATI) have a setting where you can "force detect" a secondary monitor or TV if it's not being recognized correctly on startup. This way, it always thinks there's a second monitor.

If you are using a secondary monitor, make sure that it's turned on before you turn on the computer. That way when the card boots, it will have a much better chance of detecting it.

(if this doesn't fix it, check with exweedfarmer's elephant Stanley... probably pooped on it twice.)

In your compuhost "Hardware Settings" dialog - go check it. I think you may find it's not setup correctly.

These are all great suggestions, however.... What was the EXACT error message you got?

Without that handy bit of info anything else is useless speculation.

But, but, but.....

Speculation is REAL and not useless.... after all, it was speculation that made the gas prices $4/gal last summer... I speculated that there was someone that must have been pickpocketing me at the gas pump and while I didn't see anyone standing there, someone was really taking the money....

I appreciate all of the advice that you all have given me on this, especially the elephant. I feel that I need the phone number for the elephants owner, as I feel this is my best option. I have checked the graphics card settings, along with compuhost settings.

maybe I should be clearer, on the problem I am having. My secondary display is working, with other software. Virtual DJ, divx player, anything else I open goes to it just fine. only compuhost is having trouble projecting to the big screen. In the hardware settings on compuhost, it says that the screen adjustment arrows are only available after the screen is visible. These arrows are available, but no screen visible. Is it possible that compuhost is sending the video somewhere else, and I just can't see it?

YES! That is why I suggested deleting the default.cfg file and startng over.

The standard extended window placement is to the RIGHT of the main screen, and CH expects it to be there. Some drivers allow the user to designate a different position, right, left, top, bottom. You can determine the current position by just dragging your mouse, ie. if you have to drag the mouse to the right to see the mouse cursor on the extended screen, then the extended screen is positioned properly to the right, if you have to drag the mouse up, down or left than the screen position is incorrect and needs to be reset to the right.

Make sure the extended screen is positioned to the RIGHT, delete the default.cfg file and restart CH, this should get you going.

Good luck
