Home already.. How time flies when you're KJing..

Of course the show ran over, (2 into 4 hours) but all in all, it was fun..

Since Yamaha had rented a DJ, I lucked out just spinning the Pioneer disks in my converted Atari game console. (I'm a tinker kind of guy)

The sponsor limited the singer base to 20 max.. no worries, 16 signed up..

Three more came around after a bit..

The first round, five were selected to fight for the title of ..... wait for it.....

"Dune Idol"..

Yes, a pure case of microphone envy..

The final 5 duked it out and Terry pulled a win, ($2000 portable generator) and second place received a 19" LCD TV with DVD, and third skulked off with a 17" LCD computer monitor.

The other two did carry off a large package of goodies from other sponsors..

Update on the DJ/KJ collaboration..

Some say, it can't be..

I say, it's all good..


The DJ had been set up for two days,
MC-ing the gig during the day, promos music etc.

Saturday afternoon the wind came up, and blew out the cones in his largest speakers..

(The wind was fierce.) He packed up his entire system..

So, when it was time for the Karaoke portion of the show, I had been led to believe I could plug in to his larger system.

Not so..

Anyway I am only running 300 watts, so an outdoor gig is just not what I wished to do without more power.

Well, after a sound check, Jay (the DJ) came to the rescue, and unpacked his 1000 watt amp and two 14" speakers.
I hooked him up on a second channel and it sounded pretty good.

All was right with the world, except every time the singers waved the mic around, the squeal erupted like a slipping clutch on a Hyundai in a police chase.

So, the moral of the story is, bring it all, you will need it..
