Not read it yet, but am going to.
But it's a no brainer. Singing released endorphines (hormones) that increase your general well being.

It may make the singer happier, but I'm sure it doesn't help the other patrons in the club to listen to a bad one. I'm sure if a study was conducted on the physical effects of listening to karaoke it wouldn't be so positive.
Us KJ's should be getting combat-duty pay for the function we perform because I'm sure it shortens our lifespans....
(how many times can you listen to Patsy Cline, Sinatra, Presley and others done badly before it actually kills you?) I'm sure some of us are practically dead...

- sounds like you have chosen the wrong line of work! Can I have first dibs on your rig when you pass away?

Not the wrong line of work... just a deadly one..... far more dangerous than originally anticipated....
You'll have to take a number on the first dibs part....

Many bars with bad reps of fights or drugs and ready to be closed has been saved by karaoke. Karaoke crowds are more mellow and better adjusted. The kids that grew up with a karaoke machine in the basement is an entire different breed. It gives permanent bonds between people that normally woudnt.
Karaoke has been the biggest factor in changing the infrastucture of bars and with all the negatives these days is one of the biggest positive things. It is the greatest outlet and keeps many sober or off drugs. It does not recognise borders or color of skin.

I have to go with Michael with this one. If that bothers you so bad, perhaps a career change is in order? I can listen to Patsy Cline all day, and if the singer is having fun I find joy in the fact that I facilitated that person's happiness. I would also say, that even done half-way well, others in the bar can still enjoy the performance (and do).
When I'm running my show, and I look around the bar and see people's heads bobbing, smiles on their faces, and dancing.... I'm at my happiest. The only thing that makes me happier are my kids.
Facilitating the fun and happiness of others is a gift from God my friend.

Quote: Snipped from article: "Singers use deep breathing, which is good for the nervous system," he said.
"After singing, they usually receive applause. It is a good kind of social support, and helps in the face of adverse occasions or stressful events."
I am sooooo gonna share this article with my husband, who swears music will someday be the death of me;)
Thanks for posting that, what a cool article.

When I go off on hols in foreign countrys I head straight for the karaoke bars. Even if your by yourself you soon establish a rapport with other like minded people of all nationalitys just by congratulating them and they to you for their singing. Happens every time and it's a great ice breaker for basically shy people.
