First I want to say I've never played the complete band versions of either of this games ..just the Guitar on GH with my 12 yr old son. I understand that the band versions allow you to play DRUMS / KEYBOARDS and even SING !!! along with the game which from what I've heard has great sounds and many great songs.

Is there a place on KARAOKE night for this alternate form of musical entertainment??? People Singing and PLaying toy intruments with the music ??
Large ENTERTAINING videos for the big screens ?????

My personal opinion is with the right venue and setup you could have a really unique show offering karaoke along with say ROCKBAND. I know diehard singers will not agree and that's understandable but if it brings in MORE paying customers and gives the KJ a UNIQUENESS ...... Pros and Cons ????????

It was done here & there around here. I have watched it die out pretty quick at least the few places that had it no longer do. Singers didn't want to wait for the game players. If it was done, offer it either before a karaoke show or make it the last hour. I've seen it offered in bars just for fun - they just bought it & hooked it up to the big screen. Rent the controllers out - so be careful you don't offer up something that the bar can definitely get & run for free.

I am a Rock Band addict and love the game, especially when I crank the volume through my PA in the living room. :P

It is a fun party game and could be done in a club. I toyed with the idea, but never did it. The catch is that in order to play the game, you have to watch the screen. This means either everyone gathers around one screen, which doesn't look like a real band to those watching, or you have to have FOUR separate monitors for each of the band members if you want them to appear "on stage" like a real band and face the crowd. Rock Band 2 even has a "No Fail" club mode where the band can't fail and get booed off the stage, like you can in the real game.

IF you had the right venue, clientele and equipment, you could pull it off. And even IF you had those things, it's still better suited for a special night once a month/quarter IMO.

I've seen places that have had ROCKBAND nites but I've never heard if it WITH karaoke. Obviously if the Karaoke Show does not need any alternate entertainment WHY would they. But I think there are many shows nowadays that could use ADDITIONAL customers and if not singers why not some GAMERS who sing etc. MAYBE not even the INSTRUMENT part of the games but they also have SINGING too ??? ...could it work with just the singing part?

It can...one of the "instruments" in Rock Band and Guitar Hero World Tour (in addition to Guitar, Bass & Drums) is a Mic! They even scroll the words along the top of the screen, just like Karaoke. Of course there are drastically less songs available for the game than real Karaoke...about 250 in Rock Band so far.

If I went to a bar where they were doing this, I would walk right out. At least with Karaoke, you are really singing. Playing fake instruments is for kids. This would only work at a frat house or the likes,

You are "really singing" in the games as well for what it's worth...

Of course I am sure many people have the same opinion about amateurs attempting to sing in a bar too. ;-)

You obviously haven't played the game. I'm 44...and love it.

That being said...it certainly isn't for everyone. Especially non-gamer types.

You sound very familiar to what real musicians had to say about KJ's and Karaoke
years ago and many still do. My post and question had to do mostly with the singing apsect of the games .. they don't just have INSTRUMENTS one of the things you can do is SING with the games.. and of COURSE if the karaoke show had a 30 person rotation this would not be for that kind of show.

In this game you are really singing. That is the only thing real happening. You are not really playing drums, guitar, or anything else. You are playing a game. Karaoke, you are not pretending to be able to play any of the instruments. You are "really" singing though.

Yes, I am not a gamer either.

Keep the games for home parties and frat parties.

Again it's just another form of entertainment , that many might like and only enhanced with a KJ's kickazz sound system. I'm not tha familiat with it but I know it is still very popular.

Actually, you're not really singing either.... you're trying to emulate the original singer as closely as possible. There is no room for your actual voice, and you can "trill" you way off the tube pretty easily... doesn't really matter how good or bad you sound, as long as you keep the indicator in the tube you can score high.

The game is a blast if you've never done it. Very addicting. However I haven
t seen it work in a club - at least paying someone to bring it in, again, I have seen some clubs that just bought the system them selves & rent out the controllers to people who want to play it.
LOTS of older (than frat age) people play this game.

Been to a few venues that run this as fun and it's a fantastic time for everyone involved. I do have/play it at home fro parties and it's quite a crowd favorite.

What I find interesting are the new singers who come in and want to sing a song mainly because they scored high on Rock Band with it. I have more new singers because of that than any other single reason over the past year.

I get alot of songs FROM Rockband & Guitar Hero being sung more often than they used to be without the game out.

The bar I KJ in has a Wii on the wall for patrons use. Lots of people are "fake bowling" when I walk in and they sure do look like they are having a good time!

Of course whether it is "real" or not is irrelevant if people enjoy it and it draws a crowd. Wet T-shirt contests are not "real" pageants either but they seem to do very well at the beach bars.
