Is there a way to put a completed song book made with KJ Pro software, on a cd disc? I have already backed up my KJ Pro song list. But i was wondering about a finish song book? It sure would be easier to take it to the copy center on a CD, and i could avoid all the cost of paper and ink for my printer.... :D

Personally, I use Excel for my songbooks. I have not used KJPro. But I am willing to make a guess that KJPro allows you to send to a printer right?

Well in that case, you could download a freeware PDF writer. The best free one is "cute pdf writer". You can get it here: http://www.cutepdf.com/

It will act like another printer on your pc. It can save anything you can view on your PC as a PDF file. You simply choose to PRINT to CUTE PDF, and it will ask you for a file name and location, and save it as a PDF. You can then copy the PDF wherever you want.

Some software programs only allow you to print to your "default" printer, without giving you a choice of which printer to send to. If KJ Pro is like this, you will have to go to the extra trouble of making CUTE PDF your "default" printer prior to using the program, and then switching your default printer back after you are done with the program.

Let me know if it solves your problem.

www.CutePDF.com has a free utility that installs as a virtual printer and allows you to make anything printable a PDF. You could then put the PDF on a CD or USB drive and take to the copy center for printing.

Edit: <Doh!> Beat me by two minutes!

Another way:

Go to your DOS command prompt.

Type: CD\ and ENTER

Then Type: CD/Program Files/Damar Systems/KJ Pro and ENTER

Insert blank CD into drive ( D?) on your PC

Type: Copy C:*.* E: and ENTER

You have just made a backup of your KJ Pro software INCLUDING your songbook.

Run it to the center, have them open the software and print from the CD.

Even easier, copy to a memory stick. (E drive?)

Using a backup in this way is perfectly legal, but sure you take it home with you!

Have you done this for this program? Unless you have, I wouldn't be saying this. We are no longer in the DOS days, and many programs will not run without supporting DLL libraries or registry keys.

Moreover, would any printshop really just run this EXE and take your word for it that it's fine?

I see nothing wrong with using a PDF printer and taking the resulting file to a printshop.

But either way :)

Absolutely NOT! However its a moot point since KJ Pro utilizes an Access database, requiring at least the Access runtime files be installed on the target system, including the necessary registry entries. Simply copying the files to a CD will NOT work!

Another great FREE virtual PDF printer is PrimoPDF. www.primopdf.com . I'd recommend using this or one of the other PDF creators and take that to the print shop, most ALL support PDF.

I agree, a virtual PDF printer is probably the best way to go with this. Just copy the PDF File on a USB stick and go to your print shop. :)

Kinkos prefer a flash drive with standard microsoft word editors. They do not accept 3rd party programs. It is cheaper to buy a monochrome laser printer like brother and go on ebay for toner refill.

Karayoker:

I would tend to agree. Printing costs can be pretty high, and especially large colume over a few runs - I was outright shocked when I went to Staples to enquire.

A cheap Brother, OKI, Lexmark etc will serve well for things such as books.

I was looking at an HP colour laser for my promo's the other day. £99 (£140$US). Very tempting.

Then saw that the refils were £60 (75$US) - which would require 4 (CMYK). Ouch.

But a print-shop should certainly be accepting PDFs anyhow - it's what they were made for originally...

I guess Fedex/Kinkos is different here. They prefer pdf files and actually have a $10 surcharge if brought in in Word ".doc" or Excell ".xls" format.

I agree with the others, the days of DOS are gone, fortunately or unfortunately.

It is not as easy to get a program to run on an external drive anymore.

However, if you WOULD like to have a portable browser, MS compatible spreadsheet, word processor, database, games, and more, all run from your flash drive and leave no tracks on your laptop, you ARE in luck. Programmers have customized many apps into "portable" applications, all for free at www.portableapps.com.

And of course, you can always run Linux from a flash drive using SLAX (www.slax.org) or Puppylinux (www.puppylinux.org) if you so desire as well.

Yup, been running Ubuntu off a flash drive for a while now - a handy tool for any computer engineer (especially when fixing broken XP installations).

You misunderstood what I was doing. I was using the DOS shell commands to isolate the software ( all of it, not just the book, including DLLs and keys) for copying. It is still a windows program. When plugged into the copy center's PC on stick or disc, it can be opened just as one would open the program at home for printing. I merely isolated it for a faster copy.

Though most PC mfrs. don't include DOS instruction ( or much mention at all for that matter), the DOS shell commands can be much more precise, quicker, and more effective than many of the windows commands.

For instance, Windows never erases anything, just fragments it all over your HD. While this can be a good thing for data recovery, it is a source of a huge amount of problems in regard to corrupting files, registry errors, memory problems, etc... - WAY more than any other platform.

I strongly suggest to anyone not familiar with DOS to become so.

BTW- Almost ANY Windows file protected by password or locked can be accessed through the DOS shell if you know how- easily. Windows protection is almost worthless for your file security.

That is all utter baloney. Windows is not DOS, and hasn't been since 1994.

I can't figure out why misunderstanding is so rampant in this particular forum.

I just re-read my post, and saw NOTHING that could be construed as a statement saying that Windows is Dos- anywhere.

The only thing I posted was a way to use the commands available in the DOS shell containing Windows. I don't remember about Vista, but all other Windows versions contain a DOS Command Icon through which the DOS shell can be accessed.

Again, I am aware that DOS is rarely mentioned by the Mfrs., the commands are STILL accessible through the icon in most versions of Windows.

Not knowing how to use them is another story. However, I will repeat one thing. Anyone using a windows file protection program is if really fooling themselves...

Anyway, loading a flash drive as I mentioned will work, because it contains all the files needed. I've done it.

Thru Win98 DOS was the kernel of the OS. Me was the first to not use a DOS kernel and was useless. The CMD function simulates DOS but is not a true kernel of, or true DOS.

I used primopdf to print my last set of books and took it to OfficeMax's print shop area.

All true, in regard to Windows. However, not ALL of the CMDs are simulations, and many things can still be done here that can't be done using Windows commands.
