Hey all.

I have the opportunity to purchase one of two very nice amps for a very low price, for my mobile rig. The specs seem very close...one has slightly higher power, but the other has slightly better THD.

Hafler P3000 - 150W @ 8Ω - <0.2% THD
Crown XLS202 - 200W @ 8Ω - <0.5% THD

In my book, both are very well respected names. The Crown is more powerful, but the Hafler, well...is a Hafler. I am leaning towards the Crown as it is newer and has Speakon connectors and the Hafler only has traditional banana posts.

Now, if money were no object there are plenty of better/larger amps out there but times are tight and this deal is unbeatable. Both are much better and more powerful (X2) than what I am currently using...a small, but very clean Alesis RA100 - 75W @ 8Ω - <0.05% THD. Given the choice, which would you use in a small mobile system? I mainly do private house/back yard parties and small bars.

Thanks...and I am SO glad I found this forum!

FWIW - I had used a Crown in the past and had much success .
In the $300 price range you have quite a few choices for power amps.
Out of the 2 listed I like the Crown for the reasons you've already stated

Don't let the THD figures sway you because you'll never hear the differences in a club.

In fact I don't think anyone could reliably tell the difference of two tenths of one percent in the quietest of studios with the best monitors available.

I would personally opt for the Crown. That Hafler is more suited for studio work than full PA use.

I've been using the Crown XLS202 - 200W @ 8Ω - <0.5% THD for the past 3 years or so, and am very happy with it.
