Have made my decision. Let me preface this as I no longer am building a separate system anymore but am planning on using the old laptop for backup and use the new one as my main one as it happens to be faster than the old one (better specs). So Compuhost is back in the running and will be wht I use.

What's wrong with buying a 2nd dongle? We talk about backing this up and backing that up, why not back up the dongle, and then you can use compuhost on 2 computers.

Well in Danny's case he is only going to own one system with an extra laptop for backup purposes only(for his primary laptop)-really no need to own a second dongle as he can only run one laptop and the 1 system he has at a time.

Nothing wrong with it I just don't have the funds which is why I chose softwares I already own for the choices.

I have been using RoxBox for over a year, and for the most part it has served me well. On more than one occasion however, I have had it (or Winamp...not sure) crash in the middle of a show. Now, it doesn't take but a click to get it back, but still your butt tightens up for about 30 seconds until things are back to normal.
I have been demoing Compuhost for a week, and just dropped the coin for it Wednesday. I REALLY like the configurable screens and scrolling "who's next" bar. Plus the fact that it doesn't use outboard players was the final sell. Cant wait until it arrives!

My frist guess about your problem with Roxbox/Winamp is that some background process not related to karaoke was getting you in trouble. It might very well do the same thing to Compuhost.

I have decided to go computer on this one as well but am unsure what karaoke program to use as I don't have the budget for a new software. I have lisences for three programs and am unsure which one will be easy enough for a novice person to use. the three are Compuhost, RoxBox and Justkaraoke. Now this gig is karaoke dj so if I go with Justkaraoke I still need winamp to play dj filler music. mind you I could also hand over my dongle to the new person and let them use Compuhost while I use Just Karaoke for myself as The gig I would need a fill in at my regular venue for is probably only going to be karaoke only.
I either always miss the vote or I don't know how. I would vote compuhost.

Perhaps, but unlikely as I run a very clean machine. I am an MCSE by day.

Are/were you runing multiple DSP plugins?

Roxbox runs two dsp plugins: Pacemaker and a multiplex plugin only available to owners of roxbox inside muchfx DSP stacker. Maker sure Pacemaker is the first one loaded.

From my experience, I haven't used any other software than Virtual DJ. VDJ 5.0+ has a karaoke plugin already installed and it's been working great for me. Maybe I'm on the wrong side of the fence because it seems everyone is using either CompuHost or RoxBox. I'll do a search for a Demo and give them both a shot.

I just purchased the VDJ program. I haven't tried the karaoke side of it yet. My friend who is very big in this area states that it isn't desirable for karaoke but that is what he uses as the main part of his business is DJ. I made the decision to carry both. I will only use the VDJ for DJ purposes, and use the filler tunes on compuhost for filler or transition.

It didn't happen very often at all...only once or twice actually. All in all, RoxBox was a good program for the price, I have no regrets.
I just wanted to step up to a package with more features. My Compuhost dongle showed up on Saturday! Woohoo!

I know this is getting way off topic but... What are the big features that you like in Compuhost over Roxbox? I'm getting that foolish urge to write another hoster and I don't want to leave anything important out.

It's not the size that matters...you should know that!
