I have a Carvin DCM2500 which I use to drive a Carvin TRX 118 sub. I need to add a floor monitor and thinking of using the extra channel on the DCM2500 to drive it. Is this possible without blowing up the floor monitor? Here are the specs for the DCM2500:

Am I really better off trying to use the DCM2500 with a passive monitor or just go ahead and buy a powered monitor? I am thinking of buying instead the Yorkville NX25P ($450.00) or other powered floor monitors, but they are more expensive. Is it worth spending the extra dollars for the floor monitors or would the cheaper powered Carvin monitors suffice since they are only intended for the singer?

I just posted this suggestion (http://www.karaoke-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=16330#235361 for another person. You seem to have a bigger budget and are looking at more reputable brands, and I guess you are happy with your existing Carvin stuff so naturally you would like to stick with them.

I didn't look up the specs on all those speakers, but I noticed you didn't supply the manufacturer stated sensitivity values for the Carvin units. The Yorkville claims a professional 100dB, or about twice the sound output for a given input energy as the 96dB Kustoms I use. Remember that's just enough for a listener to notice, but it takes ten times the sound energy for the ear/brain to perceive sound to be "twice as loud."

Your DCM 2500 amp is roughly the right size for all the passive speakers you listed. You will sooner damage the speakers by clipping the amp than by over-driving them. You could even use a slightly larger amp if you wanted.

Unless you are bridging the 2500 for the sub, you would be able to use the other channel for the monitor. If you are bridging the amp, then no.

Thanks, Lonnie and Jeff, for your responses. I am glad that I can still use the other channel of the DCM2500 and don't have to spend more for an extra amp or for a powered speaker.

My preference would be the Yorkville NX35 or the TRX12N. Can I run a pair of speakers from one channel of the DCM2500?

As long as it doesn't go below it's 2 ohm rating for that channel, you'll be fine - two 8 ohm speakers together will yield 4 ohms total. Amps of today can run mismatched loads much better than years ago.
