Another thread inspired me to ask these questions.
With Compuhost, can you set the kind of rotation you want?
Can you set whether new singers are preferred in rotation or does it just add eveyone to the end of the list? Are there different rotation options or are you stuck with whatever rotation the makers of Compuhost decided upon?
Can you close the round when you want or does it just keep adding people and make you wait till the round is actually over to add new people to the next round?
Can you manually change the order of singers if need be? In other words, can you move someone up in the round if you choose (not necessarily EVERY round, but just THAT one round)?
Can you skip any number of people in the rotation and play say, someone 5 songs down?
When I tried the trial version of the program, I wasn't able to determine any of these questions.
They are very important to me because of the way I run my shows.

YES! CompuHost allows you to place new singers ANYWHERE in the rotation! In the Add Singer dialog you simply override the placement by entering where you wish the singer placed.

YES, see last answer.

YES, to the very left of the rotation list you'll find FOUR buttons, you may move the singer UP, DOWN, To the TOP, To the BOTTOM with ONE click!

YES! You can select ANY singer in the rotation and click GO! It will poliely advise you that the singer is NOT at the TOP of the rotation, but if you select YES, they are automatically moved to the TOP and their song is started, all with no further intervention.

You obviously didn't try very hard! If you have any other questions, CompuHost has another feature VERY few others have, a comprehensive, context sensitive Help System! On most screens you'll find a HELP button, clcik it and you'll be taken right to the appropriate section, or just click Help from the Main Menu.

This was one of the things I didn't like about it as it moved the name to the top. I don't want the names moved at all because it doesn't move the name back when the singer is done. I want to just hit the name or song I want to start next, push play & that be it.

Why would you NOT wish to have the singer moved? In otherwords, if a singer is currently in THIRD position, and you launched their performance, wouldn't it be fair for them to wait another rotation, or would you rather they stay in position THREE, sing a song, and then sing again after just two more singers? Maybe I'm not understanding, but that doesn't sound fair.

No that is not how I work it. No if they were in third position they stay in third position. Yes they will wait another round to sing, but I want my list to stay where they were placed & not popped all around if I needed to start their song before number 2 due to being outside or in the restroom. I have a method I work & CH does not work for my methods in any manner as far as rotation & this is my biggest gripe about it otherwise.

You can simply click on singer Y and hit the go button. I do it all the time if singer X is smoking or in the bathroom. It does move singer Y in front of singer X in the rotation because they sang first. If you left singer Y in the same spot in the rotation then singer X, the one who's late, will sing twice before singer Y gets another turn.

I like the Compuhost solution: keep the rotation based on what happened. If I want to change it I always have the option. YMMV though :P

That's what I was afraid of. I don't necessarily want to change the whole rotation either, just the ONE song for THAT round, for the same reasons Lon mentioned. If that is the way it works, by changing the WHOLE rotation (every round) for the singer I need to move up for potty breaks etc, then it's no good for me.
And I don't want to have to manually enter it into the rotation where I want it every time, either. I want to be able to click and it goes where it belongs in the rotation with no further thought from me. Autokdj does just that. It lets me specify what type of rotation I want and will place my singers exactly where they should be in the rotation, based on my specifications. No way could I give that up.

According to who???? AutoKDJ??? No thanks, I run my show, not some hoster software. To each his own!

By the way, I wouldn't lower myself by supporting or worse yet, using ANY product produced and marketed by such an UNPROFESSIONAL organization as AutoKDJ! On their own forums they constantly use childlike grammar, expletives, and four letter words, not to mention their latest childish rant! Check it out for yourself...

http://www.autokdj.com

The fact is, they couldn't even GIVE it away LOL!

According to ME and what I specify, not some arbitrary method decided upon by someone else.

Sounds much like THIS very forum at times!
Does that mean that there is nothing of value here? I would venture to say certainly not!
Same applies there.

Fords are better than Chevvies and a Savage lever action is better than Winchester. And my ex can out shoot anybody here.

Exactly my point, I do not want any software that automatically moves the rotation, I want a list type format only. It may work for some, but I run my show, not the program.

Right! and with autokdj, I can do exactly what I want, when I want, how I want. Apparently not so with Compuhost.

This is the ini file for Roxbox. Open with notepad. I totally tailor it to make it do what I want. I have several different formats and types of shows. I need to be in control of what it does.

I will jump the next singer if the present singer is outside or in the restroom. Then after the person who I skipped sings I move them back to their original positions using the single move buttons, not the top or bottom buttons, aalthough I would succefully make the move by highlighting the one that skipped over the singer i skipped and clicking the bottom button. By the way I also run my shows the way I want to run them. I can see Tbreen's point on AutoKDJ's developers not being very professional in how they run things and based on what is on their site right now is much worse than what goes on here in my opinion. No one here posts the middle finger although I bet some might wish to at times.

And what in this INI file has ANYTHING to do with rotation management? Everyone of those setting (and MORE) are definable with CompuHost. This discussion is regarding rotation management, which last I checked, Roxbox didn't provide, since it only allowed ONE song per request. Maybe that's changed since I last checked?

This is an interesting conversation and one I hear daily at my day job (digital automation and music scheduling for radio stations). People want their cake and eat it too...in essence a "Manually operated automation system". Hows that for an oxymoron.

I use Compuhost, but the rotation features were not the reason I chose it. I liked the "splash screen" between songs, the scrolling "up next" bar and the "hot keys" instant audio buttons.

I really don't see where the auto-rotation thing is that big of an issue. If you click someone up to jump the rotation...you can always put them back where they were after they are done if you don't like it.

When you enter a new singer do you have the option of entering a rotation number and putting them where you want? Can you right click on a singer, edit remove or change the rotation number? Can you drag and drop them in the singers que to any position you want? can you click on AR and auto remove each singer when they sing? Can you select auto play and and the machine calls them up? Can you change a singers request in seconds? Can you change the background color, font type or size of the search or singers que pane? Can you resize the windows according to taste? Can you choose or size the columns?

With any other software you are limited to some software writers way of running a show and must jump through the hoops. For somebody that understands windows and knows how to use them and modify them for their applications then I recommend a software that it's core is based upon real windows. There are those here that knock Winamp yet dont even know about the ini file or how to tailor it for their needs.

If you are computer illiterate then I would suggest software that makes all the decisions. When you graduate to a DAW and want control over every aspect of your operation then I would suggest software that was actually written by a karaoke host in the DFW area.

On several forums I have never knocked or insulted any others software. I tried to give an unbiased opinion and compare them to others. Compuhost, Hoster and others are good software and if they suit your needs and trip your trigger then by all means buy them. But please dont jump on a forum such as this and get into that old Ford/Chevvie argument. If we cant discuss the features of all and let newbies decide what they want then the purpose of this frum is defeated. Thnx Ollie

BTW I havnt had any trouble rotation for any of my fo rall my formats for years and I can train any host and have them up and running in minutes.
