Had to share this, as it was vary funny Saturday night. One of the lady singers at my gig got up to sing "Roxanne" by the police. She got up, and divided the bar in two.
Essentially, everyone on the left side drank everytime she sang the word "Redlight"
and the right side drinks every time she sang "Roxanne."
Very funny.

This isn't a bad idea. Any others to try? I'm sure bars would be thrilled if their KJ is getting everybody to drink! We should expand on the idea...

We have a guy that does AC-DC's Have A Drink On Me. Every time he sings "have a drink on me" everyone turns up theirs. It makes for quite an interesting evening after that one.

The bar owner's name is Milton, and he hangs around and sings as well. Really loves karaoke.
When the girl was finished I'm like, "Great job, and ya know, Milton thinks this is the best drinking game ever!"

We have a local drinking game where anytime the singers says "I've never done this one before" we all take a swig.

There was a local host in our area who used to announce 4-5 times during the night that it was time for a shot - there'd be some special shot at a special price. Only problem was, she'd partake in the shots, too, and by the end of the night she was sloshed. Very unbecoming.

Yeah Karen I've played with band members who would set up drinking games like this. Primarily so they'd have an excuse to drink themselves.
Koyote's example was a little different because it was initiated by a customer.

I understand Bill....I knew she was using it as a ploy to get the money flowing to the bar ... I've never had any singers do any sort of drinking game at any of our shows over the years. Different crowd I guess. Hey Bill, have the females been asking when you're getting Lady Gaga? I don't even know if it's available yet.

Oh yeah we went through a Just Dance frenzy a couple of months ago and have now moved on to Pokerface.
The most accurate Just Dance I bought off buykaraokedownloads.com. If you're OK with this site get the one marked "solo". $1.49. I originally bought it on SF from Selectatrack and it's not even close. Neither are totally accurate in the breakdown section however.
Pokerface I haven't purchased. It's been brought in by a regular. I'll get it myself if any of the other ladies take in interest in it.
edit: I'll add that Just Dance was the biggest dance hit of the winter and was eagerly anticipated by the singers in the room. I bought the first version available. But most of the ladies have dropped it because it's really hard.
One gal has got it down good and it does pack the floor.

Wish I had some more adventurous female singers - none are approaching gaga yet - I guess that means I'll have to learn it to provide the inspiration. Oh brother... I don't wanna have to wear a zipper over one eye! .
I envy you your room, Bill....sounds like a lot of fun.

It's pretty chaotic.
I've got a lot of stories from the last couple of weeks but I think I'll leave them off the forum.
Some singers really do make my night though.
"Just Dance" is not that hard vocally. It's the rhythms. As with a lot of contemporary material, it takes a lot of patience to get it down. "Pokerface" is easier.

Poker face is available through Karaoke Version:

Downloaded it the other day, and am very pleased with it. Another fine track from KV.

Oh how I wish we had someone who would even want to do "Just Dance." I am not good vocally but I have a thing for the wierd rhythms and can usually get those down. But songs that no one has heard of rarely go over unless done in an excellent manner. I learn these new songs, try them to zero applause and have to retreat to "Let That Pony Run" and "Blue, Navy Blue." But my heart is with "Hell" and the Squirrel Nut Zippers.

What a great idea! I'm going to try and incorporate this into a song. Whatever song it is I'm thinking it would have to be a short one because I can see this catching on and the song getting old to hear night after night.
I do use it in a way already-
When there are birthdays the birthday person has to drink everytime someone says "Happy Birthday" to them on the mic. This has worked really well in my bar.

The funniest one I saw the other night, this girl got up to sing "Hit me with your best shot", and everytime she said it someone handed her a shot! OMG was she wasted at the end of that song....
