Would just like to thank the members who helped me out with various Mic Problems and feedback issues I was having. I bought 2 new Shure SM58's and new XLR cables for the Mic's. Lets just say it makes a huge difference, waaaaaay better. To anyone out there with similar issues, do what I did and change them up, you won't be sorry. I can now stand fairly close to the speakers with no feedback issues, good shielded cables make one heck of a difference. Thanks, Mick.

More likely it's the mic moreso than the cable, but glad it worked for you. There is definitely a difference in quality from a cheaper mic to a good mic as you can attest to.
Plus if the mic ever breaks (which I doubt unless somebody slams it with full force to the ground), Shure will replace it for $56 so you don't ahve to shell out full money for a new one.

Has anyone on this board found a way to break a standard SM58. I can remember plenty of presentations where the 58 has been used to pound nails into boards, dumped in buckets of water, and dropped from high altitudes and it worked after every one of those.

There's a reason they're the single most popular vocal mic in the world. Congrats Mick on getting things straightened out. I'm sure you'll be happy with your new mics for years to come.

Let It Rip Karaoke

I started in 94, bought 3 SM58's for my shows then. Running 7 nights a week, all 3 still work today & 2 are still in use at the shows 7 nights a week. 1 is out of commision simply because the hole where the clip of the mic plug locks into is worn out so the plug falls out all the time. Now one of my other ones are doing the same thing. Will get both replaced with brand new ones from Shure for $112.
I never worry about them being dropped, they have been dropped, slung, flung & even had them pop off & fly across the room a couple times - they still work fine. I just replace the grill every so often to maintain a 'new' look. Sorry I have to laugh at the people that get the cheap mics & then say when they break I just get another. I do too, every 15 or so years.... .

Lon what about SM58 wireless? What does it cost to replace them from Shure?

Depends on the model. If the receiver is still working, then you just send in the mic itself.

I bought 2 of the shures of the internet, brand new from a guy in Toronto, $100 Canadian for each one. I live in Medicine Hat, Alberta and he sent them free shipping, no problems. If anyone wants this info let me know and i will post the info on here. Cheers, Mick.

My two PGX/SM58's are rockin on. Sure, they have been dropped a few times by drunks and I always cringe when it happens. But I also smile when I check them out later to find them still working perfectly. The best thing about these mics in my opinion, is the modular design. The transmitter, mic head & grill are all individually replaceable/upgradable.
