Oh, by the way, the response to do i enjoy hosting shows? Yes, very much. Otherwise this would not even be an issue. I like this place, a lot. So this is a difficult decision.

Boy I wish I could give you the magic solution. I can only tell you from my own situations what has mattered.

I work for an owner most really dislike, a lot. It hasn't hurt my crowd.

He used to bring in crappy bands once a month on Saturdays. Which killed my Saturday crowd the rest of the month, but it didn't effect my Wed and Fridays. If your owner is booking the bands on the same night, but different weeks that may be a cause. People like consistancy of knowing you'll be there every Sat or whatever night. My owner no longer books bands at all now because the bottom dollar shows karaoke brings a bigger crowd.

My owner doesn't have drink specials, but actually raises the price of drinks when there is karaoke, Aaaarg! That hasn't been an issue for me either, but I do think it would help bring in more people earlier. A small amount of people complain about it and will drink other places first before coming in.

I used to see a crowd change over every couple yrs which would cause a lull also. Sometimes you just have to wait it out and treat it like you are starting over in a new venue. You may just need to rebuild a following.

If you need the gig and your being paid I'd stick it out.

I wish you luck with what ever you decide.

Thank you !

Keep us updated on what happens - We all fear losing business at some point. Many times it is nothing we've done. It is just part of the business.

Here's an idea that just popped into my head. I have a girl that fills in for me once in a blue moon. She has brought a crowd of people that I would have never had if I wouldn't have started using her. Although she has only filled in for me twice in the past year her crowd still comes in. Training someone new or using a guest KJ may introduce new people to your gig. I would think if you used someone from that area it may help. Just a crazy idea.

Ok, folks! Here it is thursday, and tomorrow night is my gig at the bar that's dying. I am planning on taking a few minutes and talking to the owner on where he sees the future being for me and karaoke at his venue. I really hope all goes well, because I really want to continue this working this gig. If any of you have any more advice or opinions before I have to lay it on the line tomorrow, I would be very appreciative of them. I actually am pretty nervous, honestly, I know I shouldn't be, but its sorta like when you have to ask your boss for a raise, even though you know he can't justify it. I do NOT want to leave him in a pickle with no entertainment, but I honestly don't see how he can keep paying for it, when business is so slow.

Thanks again all,
Scott

OK, so I know it's bad form to reply to ones own message. But, here I am at my show in question, it's 10:45, and there is about 20 people in the bar, total. The owner didn't show up tonight, so I was unable to talk to him. But when he see's the z-tape on tonites show, I think this will seal the deal. I might have to come over on an off night, and tell him this show is finished. It makes me very sad to think of it ending, but I just can't pretend it's gonna get any better. I just have to move on. The new show I'm sure will give me the friday's I need.

Thanks everyone who had a bit of input on this issue. Hope you all never have to go throught this .

Scott
