An ideal would be having men there who liked to dance with everyone and didn't try to turn two dances into a one night stand but that is rare. If only men knew that they could win a lady's heart by learning to dance and asking all the women there and let things develop where they may.

Ya know, when I was a kid my grandmother MADE me take dance lessons... man did I catch it from the other guys.... but I did actually enjoy it. When I got older I found that I could easliy distinguish myself from the "Rabble" by dancing well with the ladies (i.e. not trying to be John Travolta  )

What I hate most about our venue is they don't run the smoke blowers and I go home snorting out blood for two days.

Believe it or not there is no smoking in any public places in Md! At first there was a little push back, but the bars responded by building nice outside areas for the smokers, and people who didn't normally come out because of the smoke started coming out! I actually believe the law made the bar scene a much more enjoyable experience for everyone.

I thought Coyote had a nice, fun looking crowd and I'm sure they all think they have a chance with him. Besides the posters that I didn't see, he had the cute Heron Crossing sign and things that looked fun, comfortable, roomy and attractive to me.

It is a very fun bar. The young guys tend to get a little rowdy which can lead to trouble, but all in all its a lot of fun. I'm a habitual flirt, but that's part of the hosting I think. If anything, they know they can flirt back and I'm not going to try and take advantage. I'm "safe" so they can feel free to open up and have a good time... and that's what its all about.

Karen K, I'm not trying open up a can worms here... sorry if it sounded that way. I just don't know of anyone (guys or gals) other than the young and single set, that can go out 3-4 times a week to karaoke. :D

I still consistently get more female than male singers. It may be because the bars I work cater to the younger crowd (21-30). Most of them are not yet tied down with families and children. In my opinion, if the bar needs more women, it has to cater to a younger crowd. As people get older, it's the men who hang out in the bars, and the older women are there with their husbands or boyfriends.

If you get the women there, the men will come, and the men are the ones who spend most of the money (they generally drink more, plus they buy drinks for the ladies). "Ladie's Nights" usually work well for this, as long as the bar is "cool" and the ladies can drink cheap. This is all from my experience in a larger metropolitan area, where there are alot of options. I realize that other areas may have different dynamics.

When I started at the bar I am at now I would be the only woman singing all night sometimes. I definately had the problem of to many men and no woman. I knew to build my crowd I needed more girls. Woman attract men and men attract woman. It was a pool shooting after work drinking hole for most patrons. Changing that atmosphere was hard.

I basically made sure I encouraged every girl singer I had to come back as much as I could. It took time, but things have definately changed. Now I have families of karaoke singers of all ages and sexes. I have to say the only thing I did was make sure the girl singers realized how much they were appreciated and needed. I think it also helped to make the bar atmosphere very friendly. Everyone claps for everyone and new singers are introduced and mingle with old regulars. A kind of karaoke family atmosphere. If you sing you become part of the family. I hate seeing karaoke bars that are clicky. People only listening and clapping for their friends only. Yuck!

Now why wouldn't girl singers love to sing in a bar full of men? I'd think most girls would eat that up, unless they felt uncomfortable. It may have helped that I am a girl I don't know.

Sometimes bars get labled. If your bar is labled as an old man bar it is tough to bring in a younger crowd. If it is labled as a rough bar it is hard to get the family crowd etc.... You may have the up hill battle of breaking the bars stereotyped rep. It can be done, but you need to encourage the atmosphere you want. The way you run a show a lot of the time can help. Woman when they come in should be made to feel comfortable. I know if I went to a karaoke bar and the atmosphere was a lot of men treating me like a piece of meat I wouldn't go back. I'm not saying that's your issue - it's just an example.

WE had a 200 pound female in a pleated micro-skirt with a big black corset worn on the outside come in and demonstrate that she could put her legs behind her head while sitting on a barstool. I'm thinking the woman and youth thing is a lost cause here. But I'm getting more material for my novel......

I do think "chocolate" was the correct answer. Where we used to patronize a show the ladies would have the likes of chocolate martinis. At our place I got laughed at for inquiring if they had a hoity toity dark beer.

I keep saying that I'm going to take my toys and go home and then we suddenly get in a crowd--one week a birthday party but they were just "slumming" and the designated driver said he only comes in the place every few years and only when he's paid to do it, then the next week a karaoke show down the road was cancelled so we got their people, then the next week the owners of the bar down the road brought half their clientele with them to "audtion" us as possible new hosts. So each week I think, one more week, try this try that, then we are dead the first hour and I want to pack it in then a one time group arrives. Weird. So, one more week.......

Can I just say I'm on the fence about missing this....

On one hand, what a great story to repeat, and on the other there's a therapy bill involved...

Your vivid description alone gave me one heck of an OMG! moment, so seeing it live might not have been all that wise... :rotflmao:

It was a nightmare, look away type of moment. But oddly enough it WAS therapy for me. The same guy who really likes this-er-lady is the same one who keeps telling me I looked much hotter as Amy Winehouse at Halloween than I do as my normal self. I used to be insulted but now that I see what type he is attracted to, I'm relieved.
