All wet books get from me is a swipe across the carpet before storage I'm afraid. It's 2:30 and I'm beat.

We're just about to reprint, 18 books each of Artist and Titles, split into A-L and L-Z. We use plastic covered duotangs and no page protectors (Just a pain to use). They wear extremely well. Our last ones lasted two years and are for the most part in pretty good shape. We will give the old books away to regulars who want them.

I have chosen to cherry-pick my titles and only print a subset in my book. I have picked all the songs from SoundChoice Foundation, Supercore, and recent songs. Plus all the songs that have been sung at my gigs in the past couple years (from CompuHost history). I also pick a few artists where I list all of their songs I have.

It runs about 2700 songs, and is easily printed in 80 double-sided pages, both artist and title. I also state that I have about 7000 other titles that are not listed, and that anyone can come up and ask if I have something.

Here is my list:

http://duxmail.com/book.txt

This keeps my printing cost way down, but finds something for most to sing. (Remember we are country around here.)

If anyone wants to add what they consider to be essential songs to that list, this thread:

http://www.karaoke-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=16064

has a place to put more titles. It would be kind of nice to have a "master list" that you could print that would limit book size yet give everyone something to sing.

I really don't get why update sections are such a pain for some people. In my experience, they've been well received and I even put them in after a full re-print so that my singers can find the latest releases quicker. I separate them with headers: MARCH/APRIL2009
JAN/FEB 2009
And so on..
It also shows that my library is always bang up to date and that always gets commented on. That's got to be a good thing hasn't it?

The part I don't like is the cost. Initially, before I found a better way of printing, the cost for each book was around 27 dollars. (binder, paper, protectors and toner) So I wanted to find a better solution to the cost issue. I found it, but I cheated. I used the printer at work which will print both sides, and the toner is 90 bucks each, and will print around 30 thousand pages on a toner. My printing is around 6 thousand pages total, printed on both sides (3000 sheets of paper). So I only used about a fifth of a toner, costing me around 20 bucks. Much better than my printer at home which prints both sides too, but the toners only last about 2500 pages, and cost 80 dollars. That really got expensive.

Now, after reading some of the different ways of doing up books, i'm thinking of doing the next printing differently. So, gonna take some of your guys advice. Thanks

I got an Epson R285 inkjet printer with a continuous ink system. It literally costs pennies to print each book! Although emptying & stuffing the pouches is quite a slow & boring job I have to admit, but its only once every 3 or 4 months.

When I do an update, I reprint the entire updated section so everything is still alphabetical & mixed in with any older update - the newest additions are marked with an * so they can just look in that column & see everything new. Hate books that just keep adding page after page of new additions (was guilty of this myself for the first year), after a few of them, you have to look through every page to find that song you want - which was the biggest complaint I got.

Page after page I can understand, but mine only ever have 4-6 pages, never more than that. Every time I get new discs, I re-print the whole 'latest additions' section & throw out the existing one. Its neat & tidy and easy to browse.
This is my latest additions layout.

At least you get rid of the old. That's actually much nicer than some I have seen.
Here is an example of what I do.

If it really is up to date, yes. The norm is to have the song additions be four years out of date.... 8-)

Im leaning that direction too. Here is the way I think I will print these books.

Interesting, I didn't see that last post until I researched dupes in fastTracks. I am ready to reprint my main libary as my "recently added" pages are getting many.

I found the feature in fast tracks that allows to eliminate duplicates. You are able to select 8 manus in order of which one you want showing in the library. I assume that if one of my disks is not from one of the 8, the system will still list that disk in my book?

I will put a note in the front of my book that is you don't see a particular song under a particular manufacturer, ask.

Also I would like feedback from others as to order of manus by personaly opinion of quality.

I have in this order:

SC-Sound Choice
CB-Chart Busters
PH- Pop Hits Monthly
TH-Top Hits Monthly
SP-Supercore

Looking for suggestions for my last 3. Also I know some will debate my top 5 and their order. That's ok.

Yes, if the song isn't made by one of the preffered manufacturers, but its the only one of those you have, it will still list the song.

Well, I had my first shows this weekend with the new books, and they were a big hit with everyone! People commented on how easy they were to put on the table, and I noticed that folks could bend them around like a tablet and put them on their laps.

People bringing the book up to show me what song they wanted was way easier too... for them to carry.

I also liked how easy they were to gather up and put away. In fact, I had people voluteer to do it for me when the show was over!! :D

For updates, I think I'm going to stick to the one a month deal.

I did, in the past print out a small book with just updates in it, and it didn't see much use. Logically, this makes sense if you think about how people do karaoke.

If you are not a regular, and haven't seen my books before, update pages are a pain for you, because now there are two (or more!) sections to scroll through.

If you are a regular, then you more than likely have an artist or artists you prefer. Thus, an update section(s) is a pain for you if there is nothing new by your artist (s).

This way, all you need do is find the lastest print, and look up YOUR preferred artist, and all the songs, new and old are right there in one place. Simple.

My favorites are the same as yours except rplace TH with DK. As for THM -- I find them to be way worse than the other four in quality, particularly for country. I don't own any of their stuff, thank goodness, but I have to sing to in at my favorite dinner karaoke (which has a pre-loaded CAVS with a lot of THM).

As for quality, it varies. In general, I agree with your assessment but there are many tracks where Chartbuster is better than Soundchoice. Soundchoice has a problem with too-thin instrumentation sometimes.

I agree with rips order for the top 3 - after that any manu can come into play (even at times replacing the top 3), but also will list a song if it is the only version available.

Funny how it is different depending on when you got started and what is now available. After SC, then CB the next place I would check would be Zoom and then Radio Starz--oh, and Priddis. I have even made do with some Quick Hitz and Legends. We have a contingent of older singers in our area who actually prefer Legends as "their old and comfortable standby."

I was liking Chartbuster for Pop for a while but the more I got to actually know the Pop songs the more disappointed I got. ("Viva La Vida"--thin orchestration, wrong words, lyrics don't come up until well after verse should have started, abrupt ending) but I buy CB without even previewing when it comes to country.
