I'm in total agreement with this. You will open yourself up for a whole lot of heartache if you don't shut it down right now.

I have a regular who is in an 80's tribute band. They don't have a PA so they haven't played the venue I run a show at. However after some discussion with my audio guys at the office I decided if they wanted to play I'd run the PA and board for them with a little help from one of the audio designers from the office, who is a live sound expert.

The intent is vocals only for our size venue with worst case being running a mic to reinforce one of their amps. From that perspective it's at most 8 microphones for the event unless you mic up a drum kit. I'd have control of the board and we'd see how the whole thing goes. In most small venues you don't have to worry about running everything into your equipment, just the things that need reinforcement like vocals.

<Edit> Oh and yes charge them for it, might be more than the rental store.

Without more details about what they want to use it for ..but

If they have their own amps and are just asking to use your PA system for VOCALS or maybe MIC an amp or two .... You're going to be there ?

But for just some MICS??? WHATS THE BIG DEAL ?

Actually, quite often I get people who ask if they can bring their electric acoustic guitar and play a song for their karaoke turn. I tell them "SURE". I really don't see the harm in it. But they need to plug into one of my extra mic inputs, so I can adjust anything from there, and not mess up the normal mics. However, if it was anything other than just a guitar, I would tell them no way. I have shared the stage with bands before, and I know it can become cluttered a bit, but I believe thats a small price to pay, compared to replacing an amp or a speaker, or mixer or whatever they decide to blow up.

Even if its a band that I know, friends included, they still get the stern, "Hell, NO!"

Dont even get involved with it. JUST SAY NO.

If they are going to be a "BAND" then they need to bring ALL of the equipment neccessary for them to perform. They can go get a small mixer/amp and set of speakers for the mic.

DO NOT LET THEM USE YOUR GEAR UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!
