I work at a bar that I have been looking to replace it either with another gig or even working a parttime job and also doing private parties only. Well I think I should get my you know what in gear cause Friday night, a night I don't work there, the bouncer was stabbed to death by a patron. Makes me think that my wanting out is the right thing for me. I come from a family that believes you don't leave one job until you have another so I believe I'll continue to work there untill I get another job.
Opinions? Yea I know I am opening up a big can of worms by asking for your honest opinions.

Well I gotta say a stabbing could happen at any bar at any time, however it certainly would be enough to get me thinking about my safety and possibly looking for alternatives. Does this bar seem kinda shady overall or do you think this was an isolated incident. I guess for me that would be an important determination in the decision making.

Bouncers get into altercations all of the time. KJ's, not so much. Some bouncers take the job in hopes that they can get "physical" every now and then. Not trying to say your bouncer was a guy looking for trouble but you never know. Just to be on the safe side though; I'd keep a close eye on your rrotations.

99.9 % ofthe incidents happen on Friday night when I'm not there. They have a DJ that plays freestyle music.

I have decided to walk away from the bar. Hopefully by doing so I might get lucky and another job might open up. I'm not going to use the stabbing as the reason I am leaving though. The owners have been crying that they aren't making money to pay everything so I am going to use that as the reason I am leaving.

About a year and 5 months ago, I walked away from a gig that the manager was just too hard to pin down and get an answer on scheduling. So after I left, they begged the DJ they had to take over the karaoke. He did, and about 3 months into the show, there was a shooting inside the bar. Three people got shot, (all lived thankfully). He quit on the spot, and the bar hasn't had karaoke since. The place was really scary, drugs everywhere, strip joint directly across the street only 60 feet away,,,,hookers and the police couldn't control it. I believe you are making the right decision. When you are not comfortable any longer, it's time to walk.

Danny, go with your gut feeling. That's the most important thing. If you feel uncomfortable at the place, give them your notice, and leave. Worry about the other stuff later.
