I have found that email lists are a great way to get folks to my show and keep them up to date with what's going on in Koyote Land.
I was thinking that I should put an email request right on my song slip... anyone else do that?
How do you collect emails?

Exactly like that.

I sometimes put a slot on the back of the slips for email or phone. Myspace is the best way to keep all informed.

We have a request on our song slips. We get anywhere from 1-3 per show. We also have a following on www.meetup.com that broadcasts shows to our followers.

I'm finding that Facebook is the preferred site around here.

I use MySpace & email. Don't care for Facebook as it seems more geared for personal use rather than business. But I just ask people for their email or MySpace. If they just give an email, I can often find them on MySpace too.

I use e-mail, but I had a better idea.
I verbally request cell phone numbers and permission to text. Surprisingly, ( I mean I was REALLY surprised) a lot of people agree.
Why is this better?
E-mail may be read at any time, and a show may be missed because of this. Also, some spam filters will kick your e-mail.
A cell text is almost always read upon receipt if the cell is on the person. This eliminates missed shows. Also, no spam filter.

Facebook is overtaking MySpace in popularity! And there are tools useful for businesses on Facebook. They've made some changes. Try it again...

Most of our singers are on MySpace. I have a Facebook account but no one seems to be interested.

I have a spot on my slips for email addresses, my only issue is the ability to read drunken scribble the next day when I'm updating my list - Sometimes I get bounces because I can't read what they wrote down.
In rare cases, I'll open up notepad or excel or something, and type down the address as they tell me..

Joe's idea of texting is awesome. I have an email address line at the bottom of my songslips but only occasionally remember to add them since it's so transient here.- i get a lot of international emails.

Love the texting idea. I do get cell #s from people all the time. Picked up 2 new Facebooks last night...people are into it. Sometimes it's a nuisance to go through them all, but I can see the value. Hubby's band uses it a lot - yes, there are more business-like applications now - like invites to gigs with RSVPs.
I agree with the drunken scribbles - I went through a time where I was very dedicated to getting e addys and many of them were so poorly written that I would continually get bounced mails. I think probably a combination of Myspace, Facebook, texting, and e-mailing is probably the way to go. There are some people (believe it or not) that don't have facebook or myspace...imagine that!

Myspace and Facebook is so 2008, Tweeting the next shows to your followers is the new way to go.

Tweeting (noun) The incessant blathering of one's stream of consciousness via computer or portable wireless device to an internet website known as Twitter caused primarily by the delusion that other human beings find such information to have entertainment or educational value.
Sorry was that a little cynical? Internet fads really annoy me if you couldn't tell. No offense meant to those that use Twitter or similar services.
