Don't you have to input the key of the song for pitch correction to work? And any of you doing this, would you put it in the singer's monitor?

I don't know about Antares, but on VoiceTone Correct and Voiceworks, the pitch correction is simply to chromatic A440. You can adjust when to attack, how fast to attack, and how much to attack.

VoiceTone Correct has an additional feature called "adaptive" for EQ and pitch correction - dynamic autopilot instead of simply straight chromatic adjustment. I think this is the one all of you don't like. It dramatically and noticably changes the pitch, and doesn't sound natural at all. I never use it.

VoiceTone Correct also has 2 mono XLR outputs. One for mains that is always wet.
The other can go to monitors a can be dry or wet. It also has LEDs that show you how far off the pitch is and when it is attacking and how much it is attacking.

yeah but my point is...they are not stars and the moment they are away from that equipment they suck...what is easier on the person and their ego? A balanced honest sound or something that lies and has them believe Simon will love them?

I don't ever tell someone they sounded horrible even when they did. Worst thing you will ever hear me say to someone is "You didn't commit to singing it. Stop half stepping you *know* you can sound awesome".

I'm not here for their ego, I'm here to make sure they have fun. If it means I make them sound like an American Idol contender then that's what I'll do. More to the point if it keeps those folks and their friends coming back I'll make them sound as good as I can, artificially or not. That's our business and we simply can't afford to have them pack up because they sounded better elsewhere.
