I have a lot of "extra" cables that I only need for some locations. Ie I have longer and shorter speaker wires, video cables etc, and I choose the shortest that would get the job done. For my extra cables that see little use I keep them in clear large 2 gallon ziplock bags (or 1 gallon for the shorter cables). THat makes them easy to see and prevents them from tangling with the other stuff. Sometimes I need the extra 50' electrical cable but it is a rarity so I need to have it on hands especially at an unfamiliar location. But at the bottom of the tubs it would evenetually get tangled.

Now if I only had the energy to be as careful as I want to be about the calbles after a late show when I am thinking more about getting home than ease of setup for the next time...

Im trying to sort cables within a 16u x 10u rack and power supply to more than the cables running to speakers and the likes ,although could look into sorting a strip or putting pluggs on the sides of the rack to plug some things into externally ,nice to close the rack up connected if i was leaving the gear somewhere overnight .

would you say most things are low end power wise apart from the amp

The amp is obviously the largest power draw. Your other devices are all under 50 watts each. You can plug it all in to a heavy-duty power strip and just hook that up to the house power, and not have too much to worry about.

One thing you should not do is run lights, fog machine, stuff like that, from the same circuit as your audio system. Do your best to connect them to different circuits.

I am not a fan of cheap power distributors (I think I posted about that above) but you can find a lot of them with convenient outlets on the front as well as the back. This way you can plug your laptop and hard drive into that.

If it's a stage meant for musicians, chances are the two boxes are two different circuits. You should ask the manager/owner/etc to find out for sure. The reason I said "do your best" to connect them to different circuits is, realistically, you don't always know what outlet is on what circuit, and sometimes the owners do not know either.

Good example, my partner and I did a school dance a few months ago. We asked the lady in charge if she knew whether some outlets were on the same circuit or not. She had no clue. We just hoped that using outlets that were 20 feet apart would be safe, so I ran the lights to one outlet and the sound system to the other one. Well, we turned the system on an hour or two before the guests showed up to let everything get good and hot, and wouldn't you know, a circuit breaker tripped. So then I moved the lights to an outlet like 40 feet away. Sure enough, a couple hours later, the breaker tripped again. Damn than gym wiring. Finally I realized there were a bunch of Christmas lights hooked into the same circuit as the audio system. Once I unplugged them we were fine.

And they say christmas is the season of goodwill not when its killing your system.

Give this PSW thread a read http://srforums.prosoundweb.com/index.php/mv/msg/44778/0/20/23647/ and then you will have an idea of the kind of stuff the pros go through just to figure out where they should put their speakers. There is always something new to learn.
