I had a male co-worker while stationed in Japan that was Red Headed with Freckles and his freckles would turn GREEN in the summertime.
DR's told him it had something to do with the way the sun hits the country also why the Japanese have a yellowish tint to their skin.

I have been to Japan twice, and never once did I see any yellow skinned people. It's a stereotype.

GINGERPEDIA
Dictionary.com has 11 entries for the word “Ginger,” but not one of them captures the true meaning of the word. One entry comes close, but is almost shockingly simplistic:
adjective
(used especially of hair or fur) having a bright orange-brown color; "a man with Gingery hair and bright blue eyes"
Gingers: my favorite kind of human. More than just “redheads,” Gingers are a diverse and widely misunderstood group. They are mutants whose daily lives are a constant struggle to overcome widespread prejudice and the cold, hard truth that they will likely be extinct by the year 2100. I’m here to both demystify and exalt the Ginger with this Gingerpedia, a guide to five of the most frequently encountered types of Ginger.
The Classic Ginger
Typified by red hair, fair skin, freckles, and blue or green eyes, this type of Ginger usually hails from the British Isles. Some estimates put the Ginger population in the UK and Ireland as high as 13%, with as many as 40% carrying the Ginger gene, with more Gingers in Scotland than anywhere else in the world. This kind of Ginger bores me, so I’m not going to spend much time on them, particularly since sometimes it is hard to know if you are looking at a Classic or a Faux Ginger.

And just what part of Japan did you go to Tokyo? That part of Japan lives mostly in the dark. Work all day and party after the sun goes down. I spent 3 years up on the northern tip of the island and believe me their skin has a yellow tint to it. I also traveled to many out laying towns where some kids had never seen a round eye before and were amazed by us.
I'm not saying their skin was bright yellow but it sure wasn't white or brown. Also spent a year in Korea where there a mixture of Koreans, Japanese and Chinese and yep you guessed it same colored skin.
Had LOTS of fun in both countries, loved the people and customs, but stay out of the big cities as they have been to westernized.

P.S. No I'm not oriental, but a true Native American Indian.
