Question: Is there a 'standard' for the industry on how this is handled?

Like everything else --it comes down to what was agreed upon. In this case if I read correctly --you don't work for the bar ..but a KARAOKE COMPANY ?
You seem to think that the MORE the bar takes in the MORE you should make ?

I can tell you although nice NOT THE STANDARD. You need to talk to your boss about a RAISE ! Times are tough (I KNOW) and these bar owners are trying everything they can to increase profits WITHOUT increasing expenses.

I believe that it's a tough decision to make on this one:

On one hand, you've been there a very long time and the venue has not (from your description) really "lost" money on any of your nights for a long time and yet they negotiated your bonus "down?" And now they make an extra $400/night off the door and this is still a problem?

In the length of time that you've been there have you ever increased your fee? Would they not tolerate that?

Just doesn't seem real fair and it might be time to increase your pricing (if you haven't already) that you can justify as simply a "cost of living increase" and they should not have a problem understanding that.

If they make any 'hints' that maybe they should dispense with you as their entertainment, I wouldn't bat an eye because it would be a bluff.

You built their crowd to what it is today, you can build it again tomorrow.... at the venue across the street that will make the pay more equitable.
