Saw it in IMAX yesterday. If you haven't seen a big movie like this in IMAX yet you've got to do it. It is so worth the double admission price.
But get there early or better yet buy your tickets in advance. The line to get in was around the block and the theater was full. And this was for a weekday afternoon show.
Loved the movie and the new approach to the franchise. This new movie has very little to do with Star Trek as we know it, but that's Been there done that. For forty years.

I heard Star Trek is doing better than expected. It just goes to show you don't underestimate the treky fans.
We just saw the Wolverine movie. It was really good. There are a lot of great movies coming out for the summer. Transformers and the Terminator movie should be good too.

I'm a treky fan, but I've never taken it to the lengths of dressing the part. Here in Chicago you'll see klingons lined up down the block to see a movie.
I love the new Burgerking comercials.

If you like both Star Trek and Star Wars you'll love the new Trek. It's got the classic Star Trek characters in a movie with the look, pacing, and special effects of Star Wars.
Personally, right now I think it's the best space-based sci-fi movie ever made. That opinion may change in a few days when the newness wears off. But it is the real deal.
I couldn't talk anyone into going with me so I went by myself. No one thought they enough of a Trekkie to get into it. But you don't have to be. You really don't have to know anything about Star Trek to enjoy this new movie. But if you do you will catch all the really cool little references.
The long lines I experienced were at an IMAX theater. If you see it in a normal run you won't have them. But I really recommend taking the time to view it in IMAX.
Don't sit too close!

Dammit Bill, we have to thank your fellow Canadians for creating IMAX. Karl Urban IMHO had the best part. Saw it last night. Only problem I find with the big budget movies is the action moves too quickly and you miss quite a bit. But then I guess that's what DVDs are for.

Love the kitty Sunny!
I went tonight and saw it at an IMAX theater. It was awesome ! I hope they make more with the same actors. I thought they were dead on.

I haven't seen the new Star Trek yet but knew it would be awesome as the mastermind behind the movie is J.J. Abrams...the same wonder-boy who created Alias and LOST (the best show on TV IMHO!).
There is already a Star Trek sequel in the works according to Variety.

Thanks for the article link Barry. I liked the part where they'll see where fans want them to take this, which probably means how much leeway they have. Since they've solidly placed the new series in an alternate universe they're free to boldly go where no Star Trek has gone before! They don't have to follow established Star Trek canon. Or they can.
Just a word before people start driving too far to see it in IMAX. You know the ad where they say that this is not your father's Star Trek? Well these new digital IMAX theaters that are sprouting up everywhere are not your father's IMAX theaters either! The screens, although visibly bigger than a normal, are not the multistory monsters of twenty years ago. It's much more conventional. But it's the combination of clean detailed imaging, stellar sound, and incredibly comfortable lounge style seats that make it worth it if it's not too far out of your way.
Glad you enjoyed the movie Babs! And Sunny love your Japanese reading cat!

Bill that was my thought too. They have premised the next one with the alternate universe, so they don't have to stay true to the past ones. I love when they slip in past references though. I like also seeing some of the old actors worked into the story line. The young Spock character was brilliantly done !
