Bill, as a performer yourself you would have appreciated the talent that Adam Lambert has - truly amazing...Kind of a cross between a young Elvis, Chris Isaak, and Freddy Mercury. Look up some Youtube before it's all cleared off the 'net and catcht his kid. You'll appreciate it.
YOu're right, FLipper - I sensed at the very beginning that the judges knew...and the fact that at the very end during the pronouncement Simon didn't applaud or stand up, he just sat there and stared, really said a lot.
Yup, it's all about ratings. They'll be missing my ratings next time around because I just don't believe we'll see another Adam come along. And really, what needs to be established is a one person/one vote system, get rid of all this monster texting, autodialing, etc.
I believe that Adam is a very polarizing performer - it seemed that people really loved him (the majority of the musically sophisticated world) or didn't like him, and those who don't like him went to the rescue of the underdog...Unfortunately moral values, etc., started getting all tangled up in it. It's a performance contest for artists and the real artist didn't win.

I had a feeling there would be an upset. When they didn't tell us who had the most amount of votes last week. If they would have said Kris was ahead of Adam by a million votes the Adam Lambert fans would have voted more. Most people I talked to thought Adam would win easily, so in my mind people would be more lax in voting for Adam. Any time the Judges would state someone was in trouble it gave that person a voting boost.
I don't think it's rigged. I think the little girl vote is huge.
I'll always watch AI. I enjoy watching no matter who wins. If it wasn't for AI we wouldn't even know who Adam Lambert was. AI has given us a chance to see young talent make it big that never would otherwise. Adam because of AI will have a huge career.
I can't wait to hear Adam's first CD.

I think it would be very appropriate to institute the one vote/one person rule - I got on 'krisallennation' where there pages of explanations about how to vote as many times as possible - i.e., have your phone automatically text up to 1000 times; how to vote via Gizmo (whatever that is), Skype, vote from overseas, etc.
So in reality, yes, it was the tweenies and those who had so wholeheartedly support Gokey for the last few weeks that put KA over the top. To me his victory is bittersweet if it wasn't an honest one.
Adam will fly regardless....hopefully he's got a good entertainment attorney to help guide him through the horrible maze of the recording world. Would love to see him take over Freddy Mercury's spot with Queen.

That would happen over Simon's dead body I imagine. He's locked up tight. The price to buy out his contract would be enormous.

If queen wanted him bad enough they might just pay off that contract. Daughtry was offered Fuel's frontman position and it was Daughtry that turned it down.

Probably, but on the other hand, this kid has made publications around the world. He has incredible long-term value, and it'd probably be worth it for some already famous (read: financial successful) band to try and snag him.
I could see on Simon's face that the results were NOT what he expected or hoped for. I would imagine it will be difficult to promote clean-cut and vocally ordinary singer like Kris...and have to wonder about his longevity in the spotlight.

I finally had time last night to watch the finale. What a great show ! I almost fell over when Kizz and Queen came out. That was cool. I'd love to see Adam end up fronting for Queen. Okay I'll admit it, it's a little dream of mine.

you hit the nail...so many are not musically sophisticated. And from one polarising person to another, I mean I have polarised people since a very early age, I can understand why joe public opted to go the other way...did they make the right decision...hell no...but give the public a vote and you are not going to get decisions based upon the correct criteria. Lets just be thankful that it wasnt another nightmare winner like the year guy with the grey hair won...see he was so mediocre that I dont even recall his name. But that really was a joke!!! At least Kris is good looking and personable and talented. I agree he will never reach megastar status but he will be marketable the way Diana Krall is marketable, but in his own genre.
As to Adam I too have likened him to a young Elvis, I am not sure we have seen such charisma attached to that level of talent in a lonnnnng time. His trademark wails were incredible and ultimately his undoing I think.
Put into this perspective...would you run out and purchase an album as it hit the stores of Adam's screams or of Kris's easier on the ear? Even being able to stand gobsmacked watching as he lifted the bar musically night after night, I would still probably not own an album...he is one to WATCH not to sit back and listen to

I could definitely listen to him on an album. Take a look at the broad range of talent he has in some of these U-Tube Videos:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvwcJUhIa0U
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bf4s2nW6nYY
With a voice like his he can basically carve his own career path. I will buy his albums and will pay good money to see him in person as well. At 26 this kid has got amazing talent and charisma.
I do agree with the High Pitched screaming comment but there have been some pretty successful artists that are screamers.
It will be interesting to see just how Commercially Successful he becomes. I'm betting that it will be huge.

Hey, Don't count out Allison Iraheta. The girl is 17 and held her own in a duet with Adam. Me, personally? This was good for Adam.
If he'd won, he'd be tied to a contract with American Idol for his first album. But now that Kris has won, Adam can write his own ticket. There have to be a few dozen producers knocking his door down.

My fear is Adam had to sign something saying he wouldn't produce an album after AI until a certain amount of time. Do we know for sure he isn't still tied to some contract AI made him sign?

I'm not sure, Babs, about the whole contract thing. I read on a site this morning that there is a HUGE backlash against AT&T for how the voting came down, and there is a big question as to who the real winner was. Reps from AT&T went to Kris A's gatherings all over Arkansas and handed out tons of cell phones with instructions on how to text a gazillion times by just dialing one time...even though at the beginning of the show they are very specific to state that all 'illicit' voting will be disregarded. MMhhh.... 38 million votes came out of a state with 3 million people living in it.
So I'm curious to see what happens with this whole thing now. AI was struggling with ratings, finally got the interest of more people who now think that maybe AI has this kind of talent every year ... and then this whole upset.
I think I heard oil rigger dude say he hasn't gone back to the rigs, that he got signed to some sort of deal...but who knows. They have the summer tour commitment. More buzz on the 'net about Queen and Adam, too.
http://www.aceshowbiz.com/news/view/00024545.html
Previously, one of Queen's members Brian May told Rolling Stone that he and drummer Roger Taylor "are definitely hoping to have a meaningful conversation" with Adam Lambert about the chance of rocking with the runner-up of "American Idol". At the time, he praised Adam, "I'm confident Adam will make great use of this wonderful opportunity. I hope I'm there to see it."

I'm getting chills just thinking about it. I don't think Adam ever dreamed he'd be singing with Queen a yr ago. I hope he can do both. I'd love to see what he'd do on his own too.
