The "Drink" in "I was off to drink you away" is indeed a B4 in "Picture".

Aha. No wonder I haven't noticed -- that is the "yelling" part I have trouble with because of the character of the phrase.

Quote:
Bob Seger only hits B4 on the original cut of "Turn The Page" but not on the live version where he fudges and moves it down to the minor third "G" IIRC.

Full voice B4 is at the very tippy top of my range and I've got a fairly high voice. It's up there. I can hit a full range C5, but only if I'm really rested. Otherwise it's falsetto from there on up.

You're a tenor. You probably get all the girls.

Edit: I just fired up the karaoke computer and the Legends version of "War Pigs" is 4:43. But that's about average for the type of material commonly done in my room.

Yes, that's about the same as the Dangerous. Yes, many newer songs are 4:30+. I even do a couple at 4:37 and 4:53 now. Ahh, for the days of the 2:20 jingle. 8-)

I have girls who have sung Turn the Page, so I wouldn't say it is gender specific.

WORK AROUND TRICK : If a newbie hands me more than one slip I'll ask them which one they want to do first. They almost always ask my opinion. I'll tell them "Turn the Page" is over done and doesn't get received well. They usually choose not to do it or put it at the the bottom of the pile. :D

Hardly! All the good ones are already taken. Or too young. Or both.

Yeah but "Freebird" and "Stairway To Heaven" aren't relentlessly beaten down in karaoke rooms like "Turn The Page" is. And you lost me with "Riding The Storm Out"... sorry.

Both of those songs are very long!
Ridin' the Storm Out--classic REO. That's REO Speedwagon.

Speakin' of long songs, how about Light My Fire by IM. A whopping 3:06.

Yeah absolutely. So I could count my blessings because they're practically never sung here.

And I can live with the length of "Turn The Page". It's no longer than most of the stuff in my room.

Tenors can be great but I tuned out the whole era of Styxx and REO Speedwagon. I just want to yell, "Sing like a MAN, d---- it!"

As for me, I said my voice is fairly high. It's not that high!

Dennis DeYoung and I can't remember the REO guy - they're in a wholly different league. As is Brian Johnson.

Kevin Cronan. Honestly, I liked REO before Kevin. He was on don't foget the lyrics though either earlier this year or last year.

I have every Styx album made thru Paradise Theatre. I love their stuff! Wish I had Miss America in karaoke. One of my faves I do have in karaoke is Sutie Madame Blue although it is a shortened version. I probably would never sing it at a venue since most would not know it.

Ironic, the two of them were touring together.

I live with a guy (actually he's my husband, not so exotic and a lot more permanent) who has a range like B. Johnson...They cover ACDC and well, as well as Led Zep. Another guy with great range: The guy who should have won American idol - Kid named Adam Lambert. HOLY SMOKES!

When you start singing karaoke, everything you sing and hear sung is fresh. The guy who has sung turn Turn the Page 50 times gets up and sings it for the 51st, and the karaokie newbie, say, "Cool! Turn the Page! He nailed it! I'm gonna try that song next week!" In the meantime, the kj grimaces, and a var veteran buys a cigarette off the bartender and goes out for a smoke. One has to develop a certain patience for hearing songs multiple times. Of course, most songs eventually lose popluarity, or they await a star to revive it with a new cover version. Karaoke isn't all that old of a phenomenon, so it will be interesting to see what happens to some of the present "standby songs" in the next 5 to 10 years. It's possible that the next American Idol might make Turn the Page even more popular than it already is!

Is it just Seger's Version of TTP, because when I did Metallica's cover it did breathe new life in that song. Also I did Songblock the guy who always sings Segers at that show. The crowd enjoyed it, so did the KJ who told him that I had the song up first while he was giving me dagger eyes.

You'd probably be surprised. I have 18 Styx tunes, of those, Miss America doesn't ever get done much, but Babe, Come Sail Away, Crystal Ball, Lady, Mr. Roboto, Renegade, Snowblind, Suite Madame Blue (full version), Too Much Time On My Hands are all done at least once a month - and are usually received well by the 20 YO's. Give it a shot one night!

I sang Renegade once and was wondeirng what I wsa going to do when I got to the guitar solo part. As it turned out, there was no need to worry. There were four Englishmen in the place that had had a bit to drink, and they all got up and started playing air guitar! It was pretty funny!
