Are you using CDGRip v2? Check the version, if not you should get it. It's free and supports a whole bunch of drives that the older one did not. It also offers error correction and a noticable speed increase.

Not all drives are capable of ripping karaoke discs, regardless of the ripper software. However I would suggest trying the other rippers available, like AudioGrabber, Powerkaraoke etc. CDGRip uses the same techniques for ripping and error correction as Powerkaraoke and MTU, but what the heck, worth a try.

If none of the rippers are able to use your drive, unfortunately your only option is to replace it with one that does. Most of the external drives (notably Lite-On) should be compatible.

Good luck,
tbreen

Are you able to rip others? This sounds familiar to the problem I had with the All Hits set that have solid colors on the disks.

Yes, we have CDGRip V2. Have not tried any other rippers. Have no other music disks to try. Made several attempts with the ones I have.
The message we get says, ERROR: no valid CDG data was read from the CDROM/DVD Device! Either the device is not capable of providing CDG data or the CDROM media is not a valid karaoke CD+G disc

Leads me to think we need an external drive. Going to try compuhost support to see if I need more info on running the software. Info on good external drive model and place to buy would be helpful. The Big Box stores I've tried are unsure if the drives work on CD+G.

I bought 3 LiteOn drives from WalMart - 2 internal, one external and they all work fine for ripping & burning. The internals were $15 (clearance) the external was $39.

Picked up an external drive (Lite-on). Going to give it a try tonight. When I use CDGRip should I put it to a ripped file and then run it through Compuhost to a permanent file. Is it a good idea to keep the files separate for a future purpose. I've got my fingers crossed. If this works he can get started learning more songs.
