OK I'm finally getting my back up PC up and running but I don't know which video card to get. I want something that will support both VGA and S-Video at the same time, but not sure how much on board memory I need.

Computer is Home grown with just the basics and a good audio card, processor running at 800mhz with 256 memory (adding more later) now all I need is a good video card.

Any suggestions?

If your Mbd has onboard AGP you want to get a PCI card. That way you will have 3 displays. Make sure it has video out and not s-video.

I have run these for years. Search Ebay for ATI Radeon 9000 64MB PCI Video Card.

Wow, that is an old PC. What is the minimum requirements for your Hosting software? MTU Video Hoster, which is what I am getting ready to buy, has a minimum processor speed of 1.5GHz. I personally wouldn't go less than 2GHz.

I would run a test before buying more stuff for this system. Play a song, then go into to Hosting GUI and see if it runs at a reasonable speed, or that the song can even play without breaking up while doing something else on the PC. I would bet you will not be satisfied with the results.

Any name brand video adapter with the connecors you require will work. Wouldn't go less than a gig for the memory on it. I like ATI video cards personally.

I've ran s-video for years and never had a problem, either with cdg or videos imported to the 2ndary screen

at least a 128 mb card! Wouldn't go lower than that. You can go as high as your system can support, but it's not really necessary.

I run S-Video on my cards, if I need it converted to something else, I convert it. No graphic issues. Newer cards today are getting harder to find with S-Video it does seem, they are moving more to the HDMI & DVI connections for the secondaries.
As far as memory, i'm one that believes more is better - looking at a 1GB ram video card right now for a possible upgrade to my 256mb.

Yep it's old and may run a little slower than the new stuff but the best part is it was all FREE, FREE, FREE.

As to hosting using Winamp with autokj and XP.
So far everything seems to work just fine but really won't know until I can hook a second monitor up to it.

2GHZ see that's the problem with all these new programs they require so much memory and processor speed that they almost force you to buy a new computer.
What else would you be doing on the 'puter while running a show other than the show?


Karyoker why no s-video? I found the board you suggested and it looks good. It has 2 VGA outputs and s-video also. The specs don't say but I'm supposing that you can run all three at once.

One of those out of town setups and we needed comp video for a big screen. I had s-video out. A trip to the shack and $40 for a converter and I was all set. Monitors, big screens, and even wireless tansmitters take RCA video. Graphics do not require high resolution anyway. I use the lowest 800X600.

I dont buy anything with s-video...


My first computer was a 650 MHZ Win98SE 500MB ram.. I couldnt record on it or put slides under the graphics. I dont know what the others take but with a 3.2 GHZ 1 GIG ram I can run Rox and record every singer and the CPU usage runs about 1-3%

I found out it takes at least a 1.2 Ghz to record without drop outs.

My only concern in your setup is you ram at 256meg, XP will run but you are way too limit If you could go at least 512meg or closer to 1gig it will help I don't believe your running on DDR but PC133 so it makes it even worst But you are correct about your cpu, it will handle an older software For the video card, I also agree that you should go at least 128mb, don't go anything less!
