But who is gonna spend the money for that one. ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif) There are more than you know. Besides, check your numbers and see how much a set of 15 books "really" costs you. Plus the printing and stuffing of updates, repairs to beat up books, binders, slips, pencils, sleeves, etc.... And this is a cost EVERY YEAR at least that you use books. A kiosk takes really no appreciable time to update and it costs nothing. The kiosk pictured above is the easiest you can imagine. Nothing ever comes off of it, it just gets rolled in and rolled out... just plug it in and it goes. With books, you have to cart them in, distribute them around the bar and make sure there are slips and pencils and at the end of the night, gather all the books, pencils, slips, box them up and haul them out. I roll my kiosk into the club, plug it in and I'm done until I unplug it and roll it out.
I was trying to be tounge in cheek there and meant no offense. I am aware there have been many sales of your good product. If I had the money I would invest in it but the price of the new one is what I can afford at this time. I agree in the end both will pay for themselves long before books will. I actually think you look better with kiosks than books as well since you took the time and money to purchase software and computers to do so. Little do they know how much cheaper it is to go the kiosk route than the books route. My books cost me $21 a book, not counting the time and effort to put them together, where a kiosk costs a one time $319 for the laptop (originally picked up to back up my main system) and what the software costs whether it's $49.99 for this software or over $100 for chip's software. Both are good softwares in my opinion and worth the money they are being sold for.
Granted I have never seen Chip's software in action but if he's put the same amount of sweat and love into it as he did his speedbook program then it's top notch in my opinion.

I have to admit that a touch screen kiosk on a cart is in the running for the coolest thing of all time. So, all in and all done, touch screen, wireless card, cart, time to build it, what did it cost?

What about the jerkweed who cant find a song on your new device and keeps looking and looking and looking until finally you have 10 people waiting in line to peruse the songlist and you have to run over and assist them. If this one monitor is all you have for the whole place it seems that it could become an issue at some point in the evening. If I had someone waiting behind me to use this monitor I would probably feel rushed into choosing a song therefore I would not be ina hurry to use it again.

I don't run shows- I just collect songs fo my own personal use but i do have upwards of 3000 songs. I keep them organised with a program called "karaoke song list- professional KJ edition 2006" It was 100 bucks but it has every karaoke Cd I own and I can find them by song title or artist. Anytime i get a new disk I add it to my list- even if it's a compilation cd- that way if anything ever happens to my cd's- I have something concrete to give the insurance so i can replace them. You can also print new books everytime you update- pretty easy if you're gonna do th book thing.
When i go to shows I usually bring my own disks- but to be honest the main reason i don't like to just pick one out of the book is i don't know the manufacturer. I selected "last dance" several years ago expecting either the original 3 minute version or the one from Donna summers greatest hits album which is 6 minutes...what i got had the slow intro part stuck in the middle of the song..I believe after i researched it- it turned out to be a version she did on the grammys or something- but it completely threw me because I had No idea what was going on in the arrangement. So if you're gonna have books- list all the manufacturers or something to let the singer know the difference between the versions.
I was at a show in florida and the Kj had made notations about dup songs- like good bass but cheesy horns and another version said "sounds closest to the original" it really gave us a singers more confidence in knowing we had chosen not only an arrangement we knew- but the best arrangement! Personally I like books..but also to be fair- if the KJ has more than 3000 or 4000 songs- you'd spend your entire night trying to narrow down the selection...
On another note- the coolest show i ever saw had a system where you gave your ID and they gave you something that looked alot like an ipod or some kind of knock off of one. It had a click wheel like one in any event. You could choose songs by artist, genre, album or song title...you could choose say "R&B" genre....then pick "earth wind and fire" as your artist...then it showed you all the albums. I picked "greates hits vol 1" and chose "reasons" as my song. The little devise then asked me if the original key was ok? ( I could go up or down 3 steps) Then when you locked in your choice you took it to the KJ. He entered it into the computer he was using-and he gave the ipod thing back to you to stay at your table. The compute rotated the singers based on what table they were at I believe. I admit i was concerned about giving my ID in for the ipod thingee- and I watched it like a hawk as a result as they surely intended- but it would cause a big stink if someone stole one of those things and the poor person whose ID was the collateral ended up being responsible. Anyway- never seen anything like that before or since. Somebody told me the Kj was a computer engineer- I always wondered if he made that system or if that is something out there for general use. Anyone ever heard of anything like that before? PLace was called Karaoke House Kafe or something like that in SC. This was 4 or 5 years ago...wasn't there when I went back last year. ![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon_sad.gif) I ran a search for it on the net but couldn't find anything by that name in SC either. Bummer...they had great sound and those ipod thingees were da bomb!

here we go again.... yeah, and the sky is falling too...
Would this be the same jerkweed that is too drunk to read your book and just walks up to you and asks you to do it for them?
And to correct you anticipating something that doesn't happen.... no, there aren't any lines of people waiting for one jerkweed... it hasn't happened. You are simply projecting something that doesn't happen.

I thought of this too, but in the few places I saw this was not a problem. I even stood in a short line, but the people ahead of me were very fast. I have spent more time trying to find a pencil.
I am sure you can have the occasional bottleneck, but the safety valve can be "go ask the kj".

Looks like it takes up more van/truck space than books and if someone uses a car, I daresay completely useles. And if someone needs 2-4 then even more space, plus finding space at venues to place them.

Time to get a trailer! If I had 2 of these, I would pitch my books. Might take 3 minutes more moving them into the venue vs the books but what's 3 minutes a few times a week vs the hassles of the books?

I have a hard time going anywhere without my sub now. Since I racked my mixer and everything, now those components won't fit in the nooks and crannies. My stuff takes up the back of a Durango plus the back seats.

Seems like a lot of money for a stand that isn't even 2 foot tall. WIll you be depending on the venue to have a table for you sit this on?

the venue provides tables and a stage. I set up on the stage and would have the laptop setup near me so I can keep an eye on it.
This might be better.

I'll be using the fast Tracks Viewer on Wed. Will post how it went and whether or not they used either my books or the viewer.

Keep in mind the "viewer" is a lookup program.... not a stand-alone kiosk...

I am aware of that. the program I am buying in the end of June is just an advanced lookup system that contains one thing Karaoke SongFinder doesn't have unless you've though of it as well, the singer's History.

We have thought of that.... we nixed the idea. Having the singer's history doesn't make you any more money does it? Does it save you money? Is it simply a convenience that allows the singers to continually sing the same songs week after week because now it's even easier? Most of the hosting programs have that feature in them anyway... why reinvent the wheel?
Besides, we didn't want the extra hassle of wondering if "Mike M." was the one that sings on Tuesdays or the one across town that sings on Thursdays.... What do you do in that case, use their full last name too?
These kiosks are so fast, you don't need to keep the history of each singer available and we'd actually prefer they sing something new.
