I am running an amplier that in Stereo mode puts out 230 watts at 8Ohms
and in bridged mode puts out 800 watts at 8 ohms.

My speakers run 250 RMS and 500 peak.

My question is which mode would I be better in?

I currently run it in stereo mode.

I guess I am asking am I missing anything running it in Stereo mode?
I hope I have provided enough information for a helpfull answer.
Another question: How many watts would go to each speaker if I plugged one wire on top of the other? Would that mean I actually will get 400 watts per speaker distibuted that way?

800 watts seems a bit high for bridged mode. Is the 230 watts rms or peak? If it is rms I would use the stereo mode.

Not sure what you mean about rewiring speakers.

If you can't bridge at 4 ohms, and move to mono, you are best off staying in stereo.

I'm sure Lonman will be the best to answer this, but here's my thoughts:
If you connect your speakers in parallel they will double the wattage and assuming they are 8 ohms the load will drop to 4 ohms.

Your 800 watts amplifier in bridge mode is under 8 ohms. now I'm not sure it will handle the 4 ohms load with having both speakers connected in parallel I'd say even your stereo setup is limit, your 230 w is till not enough to drive these speakers, you'll need the equivalent of your "peak" power of your speakers, in this case, 400-500w amp would be what you need for these speakers

I didn't say rewire. I meant to say piggyback my connectors (banana plugs) over the top of each other. I did a search for bridging speakers and Lonman made a comment on this.

I don't know about whether it's peak.

What amp is it?

Micky is correct, piggybacking the speakers will drop the load to 8 ohms & whatever the PROGRAM power of the speaker at 8 ohms will double - ie if the speaker is looking to have 500 watts program at 8 ohms, they would need 1000 at 4 ohms.
Looking at the specs you provided, doesn't look as if the amp can handle a 4 ohm load bridged.
Also what speakers are you using. You may be better off running both speakers off of one channel only. Stereo in a club setting isn't anything special especially if you have the speakers placed in a position that the entire bar can't hear. Some songs are recorded the way they were originally & one side of the bar will hear things the other side won't. Even when I run bands, I rarely run stereo.

It is a Soundtech PS800 power amp.

The sound is good in stereo but was wanting a litle more power for larger venues.

Yeah that amp definitely can't handle a 4 ohm load in bridge mode, so that is out of the question. Again, it will handle a 4 ohm load per channel, so you can piggyback your speaker on 1 channel & just run that way for more power.

Had to do a refresher on the EIA test. With that setup they can not handle the peaks. I would think the bridged mode could though.

It might be very beneficial to just pick up another amp for larger venues. Again what speakers are you using?

Pyle pro 10" speakers. they actually sound good for off brand. Don't have the money for new equipment so I guess I'll do with what I got in stereo.
Also I'm limited to 1u sapce in my amp. If I got a bigger 2u amp I would have to take out either my wireless mike receivers or my powerconditioner and that's not gonna happen.

Then instead of another amp, a good 15 or 18" powered sub would be very complimentary to those speakers & make a world of difference - even in smaller venues.

Thank you lonman for your answers. Getting a sub isn't gonna happen as I have my vehicle full with the equipment I have when I load it all in.
