I've never counted dupes but I wonder how pirates can say they have 100,000 songs. How can there possibly be that many different songs unless they are counting dupes.

Actually the count is probably higher for every karaoke song ever produced - recalled/discontinued/etc included. I think SC once said that they had over 30 or 40K individual tracks produced at one point alone. Then add in all the other companies that ever existed with the songs that were exclusive to them, I could see karaoke songs hitting way over 100K for individual tracks. But these loaded hard drives definitely do not have individual tracks.

I'm not established in this yet but thought I would add that I use a site called custom burn where i can select as many Karaoke tracks as I want and have them burned for me. Costs me about £25 a time for 11 or 12 tracks, just under $40 but I never get duplicates and they allow you to listen to samples of the music if they have more than one option which means you can choose tha one that sounds best.

It's not a cheap option but I get to choose and have no duplicate's in my ever growing collection which currently stands at about 1000 tracks. I have some sets that I bought as well, the biggest having 350 tracks in it.

I can't comment as a KJ yet, but as a singer who has sung hundreds of times at different places, each using different companies for their music.
From my experience they all have good and bad tracks.
SGB has great music, but the lyrics are wrong in many songs.
Sound choice as accurate lyrics, but the music sometimes is not that great.
Someone said it best...better to have bad tracks, rather than none at all.
So I will get what I can for now, and build as I go.
Great info guys! Thanks!

I spent quite a bit of money on low-quality tracks myself. If you think there is a significant chance you are going to remain a hobbyist, then this might be prudent. But in that case, start out with SuperCore and Sweet Georgia Brown. That will cost $140 and give you 1600 songs that will be of dubious quality but be very cheap.

But if you are committed to karaoke long term, I recommend quality tracks and staying away from the Sweet Georgia Brown, Music Maestro, and Monster Hits. You will find the vast majority of those tracks will never be touched.

First, as a BUSINESSMAN, you want to make sure that you don't waste money on tracks that you will ever use. Second, While the quality of Sweet Georgia Brown is inconsistent, the quality of the SuperCore collection is pretty much above average, while the hundreds of dollars you may spend on Sound Choice will leave you with SOME good tracks, some unused tracks, and some truly horrible tracks. Go with Stogie's advice to begin with. Again, find out what is popular to begin with, then check and LISTEN to other mfr. tracks before you "upgrade". Some of those so-called upgrades are awfull, and at an inflated price, sold high due to brand name

Chartbuster Karaoke disc's are the only one that are guarenteed "if I break it, scratch it, cracked,....mail them back the pieces and they will mail you a new one. now when your spending hundreds of dollars on karaoke sets......Also thay hire musicians to play there backrounds. Some sets are so poor in quality you can tell its a guitar off a keyboard.

Provided they are still in production + shipping/handling charge. Sound Choice offers the same guarantee - again provided the disc is still in production.
