What are the best ways to come up with a creative name?
How did you all dicide on your names?
Many host just use their initials ( like S-n-K Karaoke). I'm not sure I like that aproach, but how do you NOT steal someone elses name by mistake?
Some Ideas please, thank you.
Nameless...

I went with my first name (nickname) and my first initial of my last name and put it together. Frank from RoxBox refined it from Danny G Karaoke to Danny G's Karaoke when he registered my copy of his software.

I choose to create a character... the "Karaoke Koyote"... the coyote idea came to me because of a nickname people always give me when they hear my last name... WILE... as in Wile E Coyote... super genius.

I liked "Howling good times" as a motto too, so it just came together that way:

No one ever seems to pay attention to the name I gave my karaoke business. It's on my books, flyers, posters etc...

I always seem to have people refer to my business as "Karaoke with Babs" and not "Monkey Business Karaoke". I have people ask me all the time what's up with all the monkeys. LMAO

I gave up about 4 yrs ago and now put both on everything. Monkey Business Karaoke / Karaoke with Babs or Sing with Babs.

My suggestion if you plan on doing a semi solo business is to just use your karaoke name. Most people remember your name not the business name. For business recognition it's better for referrels. People may have heard my name, Babs, tossed around in conversation, but not my business name. So if they go looking to hire you it will be easier.

As for us "DHK DJ Service" The DHK stands for DieHard Karaoke as you see in our signature block below. Our catch phrase was "For those who suffer from terminal gottasingitis" Well, no one could pronounce gottasingitis, and I found that potential clients didn't separate the karaoke from the DJ business as a result I lost some wedding bookings due to the name so we use just the initials.

And now, we're actually in the process of changing our name again. We've recently registered our new name as "EveningStar Entertainment and Events". We think that it covers both elements as well as other events as well. However, I've not had much success in building a new web site. I've only been able to start one ( www.eveningdj.com ) but I've found the site's web design program isn't as user friendly as I thought it would be so I'm stuck for now.

So do you guys find that people still use your personal name ( like Babs for ex.), when they speak of you to potential gigs, or do they use your karaoke title name (like Danny G's).
In other words, doe's everything end up back at your personal name, and is it worth even coming up with a cathchy name because it will rarely get used?
Thanks for links to previous question regarding this, and also all your replies.

My name is Lonnie. A few people started calling me Lonman when I started singing in 90. The name always stuck & named my company Lonman Productions - didn't want to be associated with just karaoke - we were/are a 'productions' company, at one time we did dj, live music, catering, full event planning, etc.! Most people refer to me as Lonman today.
Catchy names are good if they actually are catchy and you can somehow link them into the entertainment.

My business is You In A Spotlight Production. It sounded more professional than using my own name in the mix. I came up with that, along with the logo, with help from a friend of mine. It puts the singers in the spotlight to make them look good and sound good. Basically, that was the idea behind the name.

From my experience it wasn't worth all the time I wasted coming up with a business name and believe me I took a lot of time trying to come up with the right name. My recognition is my karaoke name Babs. If I had it to do over it would be "Karaoke with Babs" from the start. I like Lonmans idea of how he incorporated his name in the business name to cover everything.

Just my opinion, but I would use your name somewhere in the title of your business.

With others working for me, it's better for me NOT to have my name in the business name, simply so that people don't assume it's always ME doing the show. I also don't think my host Jessica would want to be called "Dave" by accident. :P

I agree. It mostly works for a solo KJ or if you use a karaoke name that is more unusual. Like Jam Karaoke, Masterblaster Karaoke etc...

My first name is Dave, a very common name. It didn't make sense to incorporate that into my business name.

People do call me koyote all the time. :D It makes me smile because I knew I wanted to create a sort of "alter ego" that I could step into when I hosted. Its proved to have been a wise move, because its certainly more memorable than "Dave"

I named my business Monkey Business Karaoke, so I had a few monkeys out. People assumed I liked monkeys because of this, not so much because of the name. Through the yrs I've been given so many monkeys I can't even begin to count them. My fiancee jokes that I should have called the name of my karaoke business "Money Karaoke" that way I'd be rich by now. LMAO Last night I was given a vibrating monkey.

First...Bab's I like your husbands perspective!!! I wish it happened like that too!!
I have had an much much older gentleman who frequented alot of my shows give me his complete CDG collection. I told him I couldn't accept, but he insisted I take it and left. He never came back again...I later found out, he passed away, I guess this was his way of showing how much he appreciated our show. Thats how I got most of my Artist series, and a sound choice brick..So it was kinda like Cash, just in the CDG form!

ANYWAY back on topic....

My company is named The Karaoke Chicks,
When we started 10 years ago my two sisters and I with my neice hosted every show, and no one could remember any of our names because we looked so similar...(Very Tall, Blonde curly hair, ect) and there were four of us!
So we started getting refered to as the Karaoke Chicks, probably because the Dixie Chicks were just starting to make a name for themselves....
Well it stuck, some people may be insulted by being refered to by Chick, but it sure is better for me because everyone screws up the pronunciation of my first name. LOL

Allright!
Got it...My name(Shawn) is not very catchy. So that was out in the beggining.
My wifes name (Shinta), allthough is a little more catchy ( Shawn & Shinta) does not sound so bad.
BUT! My wife is not so enthusiastic about the KJ thing, as much as she is about singing.
The fear I have is that she will bail out on me when the going gets tough, so I figured I'd better bypass that one.Then..
My friend walked by and said: what's up hound dog?
That sounded pretty good, except that I did the old "Zoom Show" ploy, and replaced the H with a S to get Sound Dog.
Sound Dog what though?
Sound Dog Karaoke.
Sound Dog productions.
Sound Dog Entertainment.
What is the difference between these titles?
Your opinions.

Sound Dog Karaoke says what it says : you provide Karaoke services.
Sound Dog Productions, I don't know what that says
Sound Dog Entertainment says you provide various means of entertainment whether it be clowns, karaoke, dj, bands etc.
You might want to focus on what your company is going to provide. If it's just karaoke then Sound Dog Karaoke makes sense.
If you're going to provide more than just Karaoke then Sound Dog Entertainment would work. It really is up to you though.

Nobody at my venue calls me Bob. All call me KingBing. It's worked for me, people in town now know it. I've done a few freebies for good causes, will be doing Make a Wish in August. The sponsers knew my business name and asked for me.

Not so sure a catchy name is all that, but then again, it is a marketing ploy and brand name recognition is important.

Sound Dog Karaoke. - Karaoke only pretty much
Sound Dog productions. - shows you do other things besides just karaoke - like in my case, we did dj, karaoke, live music bookings. We did full event planning from catering to events going to happen, etc. A 'production' company.
Sound Dog Entertainment. - same lines along with production, except limits it more to karaoke/dj/ other etntertainment type stuff.
