yeah the crowd usually agreed and booed then gonged the heck outta people "THAT" drunk..there was one exception who was always so messed up he just screamed the songs. he was SO obviously drunk but enthusiastic about "sucking" that the crowd LOVED him! (he ended up getting killed when he passed out in the middle of a road in the fog and he got run over). But the point of the show was that "if the majority of the crowd didn't want to hear you- they didn't have to listen" I honestly believe that was the biggest appeal to it. Plus you have to admit- there is a humorous side to see ing people who are entirely too full of themselves taken down a notch! LOL. As an entertainer it also presents a challenge to make the crowd like you. Same kind of appeal American idol and other similar shows have....

Also seriously set us apart from normal karaoke shows. And there was karaoke at every block back then...so overall it was good thing. It may have been offensive as all get out to many...but it was never boring!

Hmmmph! I went to some country f@#* bar once and sang rock. The cowboy hats and rhinestone studded skanks just glared with gaping jaws.
So next up, I entertained their dismay with a George Strait song and they whooped and hollered......that's more like it!

Yeah, whatever Roy Rogers....I'm outta here. Never went back. I'm so torn up about it. :crying2:

I've learned Lily Allen's "It's Not Fair" for those situations.

Dude, I'd have gone totally metalhead... NOBODY controls what I sing, no matter where I go. IF they don't accept singers discs, then IF I decide to stick around, I'll find SOMETHING annoying in their book to sing! LOL!

et another thread to argue for karaoke only and karaoke mania formats. I have predicted trends and tried to be a devils advocate on this forum and all i ever got was several radical statements with the same old theme.

Tomorrow my new host and I will be talking to the food and beverage mngr for this resort.

Beaver Meadows.

We will not be presenting a karaoke format, but a well balanced entertainment package. No big hard drive or typical karaoke sells. In fact part of the package will be free or reduced rate cabins for a few selected singers for that weekend. The format will consist of dinner music, DJ, dance, karaoke or a combination of any. This package will be conducive towards hosting private parties and weddings.

All here are welcome but dont expect the regular karaoke show but be prepared for an enjoyable stay and excellent entertainment. Yes you will get to sing but with our and the resort rules. No it will not be advertised as karaoke just an evening of fun.If you dont like the format it is a long drive to another.

and I have no problem with Ollie's different way of running things. Hey, it's a FREE WORLD! (mostly!). Certainly is in America.

My particular skils are running a karaoke show. I've DJ'd before, wasn't my thing. To me, it's not about ME or MY SHOW, but about what I can do for my customers.

I wouldn't mind running a Gong Show kinda thing, but just know there would be some hurt feelings! And I'd love to have people come in and do the wacky other forms of entertainment. Chuck RULED! LOL!

One host here runs a Gong Show style show. But if you get gonged, you get a T-shirt. I don't really care what type of show one runs, as long as it is properly titled so I know.

LOL Responses like this let me know my ideas would work big time.

Actually I miss doing the big clubs as is seems all the old larger clubs here are churches or something else. It had been my dream to do something like this but never have got a gig because of the reputation that karaoke still has in some circles. With parties and weddings I have honed a format that would work but I am getting old and dont have the getup all the time anymore. music music music....

My philosophy about hiring a host and giving them full rein might be the way to go as this guy I think is trainable and enthusiastic. I am serious about the reduced rates for singers because a motel or resort with convention facilities could be turned into a karaoke mecca. Actually all the formats discussed here could be established in different rooms and eventually the place would be a karaoke mecca known by all. It would make for a good combination. And I would be proud to invite all to any of the gigs.

One of my abilities has been to train poor singers and with the right EFX and amount gradually gave them confidence and helped them choose the right development songs or genre. There is a song for everybody that they can sing and turn on a crowd and experience the high from doing so. Once they have done this then they relax and entertain in their own style. My classification of good singers include anybody that has this ability. They are the ones that bring in the crowds and ADD to the program, not detract or destroy it. Sometimes I have difficulty with the written word and younguns dont comprehend or feel my sense of humor. But I hope this clears up some of my ramblings and emotional rants. Ollie

Hello All,

I don't change the rotation it's set.

It will get altered when new singers come in I usually slide them in about 5 songs back.

I don't care weather you sing great or sound bad, it's your turn to sing.

Jason

The only change I will make in a given night is if I have a rowdy group that is dancing to the upbeat karaoke songs I will make an anouncement at about 11:30 that "We have a lot of folks dancing to your songs so at this time there will be no more ballads played. If you are in the rotation and are signed up for a ballad please turn in a song with an up beat song to sing." I don't ever just throw a singer out of the rotation because the suck or are singed up for a ballad. I've even been known to seek custys out that have picked a crowd killer and encourage them in person to select a different song.
