Useing your name in your business name doesnt work besides its to boring ..sorry folks but it is...you need to take the time to create a name that sticks with people.....and a logo that when people see it it makes them think of you..Take your time and work on it ...my name was taken from the sign I was born under and it works...GEMINI Karaoke....try to find you own nich...youll come up with something

Do people refer to you as Gemini? or do they call you by your first name. If your karaoke name is Gemini you are using your name in the business title.

My real name is not Babs. LOL That is my karaoke name. My suggestion was to use your karaoke name as part of the business name especially if it's creative. How many Babs do you know? People remember it because they have to interact with you all night to sing.

Allright!
Got it...My name(Shawn) is not very catchy. So that was out in the beggining.
My wifes name (Shinta), allthough is a little more catchy ( Shawn & Shinta) does not sound so bad.
BUT! My wife is not so enthusiastic about the KJ thing, as much as she is about singing.
The fear I have is that she will bail out on me when the going gets tough, so I figured I'd better bypass that one.Then..
My friend walked by and said: what's up hound dog?
That sounded pretty good, except that I did the old "Zoom Show" ploy, and replaced the H with a S to get Sound Dog.
Sound Dog what though?
Sound Dog Karaoke.
Sound Dog productions.
Sound Dog Entertainment.
What is the difference between these titles?
Your opinions.

I like the name ! I think any of those would work. Although, if you are sure you are only ever going to do just karaoke I'd go with Sound Dog Karaoke. That says exactly what you do. There is no confusion if someone wants to hire you.

Top dog is good too!
I think I will stick with Sound Dog Karaoke only, because that is all i'm starting out with. I won't be doing DJ work, or catering, only Karaoke.
Thanks guys, you are a real help!

My real name is Jay, and I am a KJ. So I call myself "K-Jay." I personally never understood the need for a separate business name if you're working solo. Mine is just "K-Jay's Karaoke." Because as stated earlier by another poster, people usually remember YOUR name, not the name of your business. Short, easy to remember, nice ring to it. If you're going to have people working for you, then I could see the need for a business name.

Personally, I think Sound Dog Karaoke sounds great. Catchy, simple, it flows. I like it!

So are people going to call me by my first name(Shawn), even though my show is Sound Dog Karaoke?
Or will they call me Sound Dog Shawn, or Shawn with Sound dog?
Mabye I should just wait and see what they call me,huh?
My question here is...should I be looking to find a catchy nik name, as the person I introduce myself as, or should I just introduce myself as Shawn with Sound Dog Karaoke?

They will call you whatever you introduce yourself as. The KJ I work with calls himself The Wild Guy. EVERYONE he knows calls him Wild Guy, even if they know his first name. He insists people call him by his stage name and they do. So if you introduce yourself as "Sound Dog" and don't bother telling people your name is Shawn, they will forever know you as Sound Dog. It's whatever you prefer.

Because, MrScott's Karaoke was a dang far better one than,,,Hey Fat Man Pushing Buttons Karaoke. Haha!!!. I also use the title "JavaTime Music", but thats a totally different thing I do. Both the "MrScott and Java" were nicknames from my high school days. So was an easy choice for me.

Mine was easy to come up with. My name is Felix. I've been called Felix the Cat since I was 5, among other names. Felix the KJ just seemed logical.

Bottom line, pick something you think sounds cool, or has a nice ring to it.

Felix the KJ

JAM are my 1st sons initials and I use them on all business ventures.
When talking Karaoke its JAM KARAOKE - when talking other mobile entertainment (like DJ ) its JAM ENTERTAINMENT. For a commercial cleaning business I also have it is JAM Entertprises LOL I'm a creature of habit I guess !!!

As I said, in my case, most no one calls me by my name, or even know it. They call me by my business name so there are exceptions.

Dr. agon - Good luck with what ever you decide. You'll have to let us know how it goes. I still like Sound Dog as a name. :D
