I use my singers recorded songs for filler as well and they really like that, Ill say your listening to Hank while we wait for Carlos to get his a$$ up here,

Ill mix the recordings in with regular filler music so it comes up randomly, I use a ROLAND CD2 recorder, I can even burn them to disc in minutes and they can listen to their performance in the car on the way home.

Singers names get written down on the list as they come in the door and thats the line up weather they suck or not first come first serve,

i was just wondering....do ya'll feel that getting a good singer up first are if your a good singer, by you going first doesn't make some people new at karaoke kinda scared to get up

Most of the time they simply don't want to go first. If the room is being "shy", I'll usually make a comment that karaoke is all about FEELING like a star, not being one. Then I'll do a Tom Jones or :fright: Englebert Humperdink tune  After I do that there's a often huge pile of slips waiting

There is nothing you can do about the people who feel intimidated about singing except encourage them to give it a try or have them sing with a friend first. I have good singers all the time at karaoke I can't tell them not to sing because it is intimidating. It doesn't matter if the KJ sings well and goes first because there is bound to be a singer in the next couple songs that is incredible. Just as much as a great singer is intimidating there is a bad singer that will make them feel encouraged. :D

To more specific if you would...
My first gig is outside at a community event. There will be vendors selling, and buyers coming and going throughtout the day. There will be a general raffle for everyone, and also a raffle for only those who sing.
There will be NO liquid courage at this event ( that I know of). Allthough one of the prizes for the singers raffle is a bottle of Grey Goose Vodka.
We are advertising karaoke to be at this event, but it is not the main thing, so I'm concerned about the amount of singers I will have. This is why I'm having a singer raffle. I hope some nice prizes would encourage some-one to sing.
So....how can I make the best use of these circumstanses, in what I say and do?
And what I say when I open this event, as far as the vendors, the karaoke, and the raffles?
Also, this event is sceduled between 10am and 3pm, so what is the best time to do the raffles, where as I would still have the most people still sticking around?
Thanks for your help.

If it is a singer raffle, then make sure you let people know there is no ticket (chance to win) without singing at least 1 song & the more you sing, the more chances you get to win! Then give out a ticket to everyone that hits the stage!

yeah! ,that's what I was thinking, but how would this meathod work if I had five singers the whole time who then would be entered 4 or 5 times, as compared to 20 or more?
What if some got to enter more only because they were there first, and would have more entries then those who came later?
Would those who came later and had less chances to sing, therefore less entries, would they be upset about this?
What is a good way to handle this?

I can't imagine only having 4 or 5 singers all day if this is a big event and they know the only way to get a chance to win is if they sing.

Anytime I've ever used raffles for singing it hasn't been a problem that some people get more chances because they sang more. If someone gets there early and gets to sing more and gets more raffles chances so be it. Thats why you are doing it in the first place to bring people to the show and keep them there as long as you can. Everyone else has the same opportunity. If someone complains just tell them they should have come earlier that everyone has been given the same opportunity to get raffles chances. (Put the rules in writing to protect yourself from any confusion.)

This is a great opportunity to advertise. Let people know to be there early to get more chances to win. You aren't doing raffles just for the heck of it. You are using them as a tool.

Most raffles are done at the end of the day or a few times a day. The last benefit I did we had one small drawing during the day and then the big drawing for the large prizes at the end of the day. It was like a teaser to the big event. I'd say make your drawing at 2:30 if it closes up at 3:00.
