HELP!

I have a cavs jb-99 that I have recently inherited. I would like to know how my laptop can extract the files from the cavs. I have read thru some of the topics already and they mention DOS but have no clue what that is.

Can anybody provide me with an easy and straightforward way of achieving my goal?

The Tracks within your JB199 are in the .NCG format and each track is encrypted. Each Track is usually registered then encrypted.
Meaning... Certain steps are taken to input the track into the JB199.

To extract the tracks to you HD, you would have to remove the encryption!
You'd have to be a "Computer Wiz" to remove the encryption using DOS!

Being that you Didn't Buy the JB199... I'd have to hear what the good folks here
think about this, Before I tell ya how to do it!

You mention the jb-199 whereas I have the jb-99. Would there be any difference in your answer?

he says he inherited it, which means he can prove ownership of the original tracks on the jb machine.

DOS stands for Disk Operating System and pretty much couldn't be used for this purpose unless you use the "debug" command and speak assembly language. I've never played with a CAVS unit but I doubt that the encryption is very heavy and if the graphics are in CDG format the encryption would be pretty easy to break (as encryptions go) because it's predictable. If all else fails I wouldn't mind having a wack at the decryption just because I'm bored out of my skull at the moment.

As DannyG2006 states, use some type of file converter.
Personally, I use CDGFix Super!

The Major difference between JB99 and the JB199 is the 199 is "Feature Packed"

Weedy, the encryption is Not Heavy, as you've stated.
Each unit has its own distinct KEY-SET!
Figuring out that "ONE" Key-Set unlocks all the tracks ON THAT UNIT ONLY!

um....why not just go to cavs website, get instruction, and use their jb-99 program manager to convert files? At least that's what i've heard...?

Their converter works only with mcg and mpe+G files.

think we have gone off the mark somewhat. I would to know how to connect my cavs to my laptop. Apparently, I've been told, this cavs jb-99 only works with windows 95/97. True? I dont know. I have the Cavs program manager but it will not 'talk' with the jb-99.

It doesnt really matter what is on the disc b ut it does mattr how thecorrect setup should be done. Thsnks for the cdgstuff so far.

Any more suggestions?

I think the point that we are failing to make to the OP is that even if you get the files from the CAVS unit onto your laptop they won't play because the computer won't know what to do with them. As I said, I have never played with a CAVS unit so I only know what I have read so I can't speak with any authority, but all the responses seem to have been on topic.

Check my post (mrmarog) about the OS of a JB-99. It is not dos... it is DRDos and a completely different animal. You will have to use the "ide" transfer method in order to achieve any sort of transfer speed (15K per 24 hrs).It will not work with just any computer, but it it may work with just any "old computer" as you surmised. XP might work (on a Pentium not AMD) and Windows 98 should work for sure (again on a Pentium). None of these are guarantees, and your best it to is to do a very slow parallel (data cable) transfer using JBManager. You can only transfer 100 or 200 files at a time this way, but it can be done. DO NOT TRY TO READ THIS HARD DRIVE USING A WINDOWS OPERAING SYSTEM. IT WILL DAMAGE THE VERY DELICATE DRDOS PARTITION AND THEN IT WILL BE ALL OVER FOR ALL THE SONGS! Cavs can retrieve them (for a price).

If I were you I would just use the JB-99 as it is, and not aggrevate yourself any more, because by the time you are done you will wish that you had never seen this unit at all. I still have my JB-99 that I purchased in 2000 and it still works great (out of retirement).
