I'm guessing most know this but i'm a lot slow...been singing all my life and didn't know this...

i was sitting in my chair recording as i always do...yes i know i should stand up but...loll..anyway....i wasd trying to hit higher notes and was leaning my head back straining..loll...when i leaned forward to look at the lyrics and noticed it was alot easier to hit those notes if i kept my neck straight....who would have thunk...it really made a differents and made it alot easier....
why wasn't i told this? does everyone know this but me? i have always leaned my head back to hit the notes....never to old to learn i guess...tc...Billy

Do you have a teacher? If not, why would you know?

Alignment is one of the things I go for now. One of the reasons I stand is that it is difficult (for me) to have good alignment when I am sitting.

One time I had a tower crew working on the waveguide going up a 500 foot tower. They could holler down and I could hear them. I could not tilt my head up and holler back. Luckily I had a newly tilled wheat field to scratch test results and instructions in to them.

There is something you are trying to accomplish by leaning back. But the same thing can be done by opening your mouth a bit wider, particularly on an "ah" vowel. I wouldn't really *try* to open it wider, but just sort of *allow* it to open wider. That is way my teacher describes anything. She doesn't say "give yourself more space", she says "allow yourself to have more space". If you try and force it, it just creates tension which is your enemy.

Hi Mickyj, funny thing happened when i quit smoking almost 2 yrs ago now...is that i use to strain and get a little extra range r power whatever i was going for, yet now i find that i have like a limiter on my vocals i can get as high r as powerful as i can and thats it, kinda like i get to my max whatever that may be then thats it...i found that interesting...i've been learning alot about my voice lately, sense quiting smoking its like i have a new/different voice...more of everything to draw on...its pretty cool and exciting yet wierd to...hard to explain i guess...i never was happy with my range so getting more i like alot....now if i could get my falsetto back....have a great day

I just learned last week it's easier to stand and sing for me. Problem being, I don't have stage presence. I stand and sing and look like a pillar. But for some reason, sittin on a bar stool I have a little bit of presence. I have a liitle bit of rythm as a chair dancer. I really wish I could change that.

Anyone seen Meatloaf sing lately? I saw him on HDNet and he has to physically get low to hit the hard notes. Never noticed that in his early days.
