At several of my gigs in the past, I have hooked into the venue's tv to display the lyrics, rotation, funny videos and messages to everyone. Several gigs this wasn't an option including the one Friday when the tv they had was so old all it had was a cable hookup.

I've taken matters into my own hands and purchased a 20" flat panel monitor that I will either have on my monitor stand (back to back with the singer monitor) or on a separate stand nearby so that anyone can check the rotation and know when to be back, plus all the other aforementioned reasons. I' m hoping I will be able to fit this in my gator. $100 on eBay new.
Now I no longer have to depend on the venue although if they have a big screen and want me to hook up to it, I still can.

Thoughts?

I recently fried my vga splitter by plugging it into the wrong dc power converter (they all look alike and the bar is dark). The 12 volt power supply was too much for something designed for 9. I had to work with only one monitor for a couple shows before I could buy a replacement splitter.

It really bothered me not to have a second monitor. I consider it an essential part of the equipment. The singers did not comment too much but I was really annoyed, I am not used to have to announce singers except rarely, as they are usually ready to go.

although this is mostly unrelated, my main amp has a built in video splitter. Five inputs for video and three out!

No amp here, vga will go from my laptop directly to the monitors.

Did a graduation gig last night, little off subject but it went great! No hiccups other than some feedback that was frustrating me as my set up should have lent to no set up, must have been the room layout?

Anyway my monitor hadn't arrived yet so I pulled my 19" monitor from my home pc, packed it in my gator and took it to the gig.
I was set up on a small stage that was about 9 inches off the main floor. So I sat up my singer monitor as usual, then took my 2' high stand and placed it directly in front of the singer monitor stand facing the audience, ran my splitter to both and vwalla! It worked greated. One little problem. The splitter has the 2 screw pins on both sections going out. Problem is so do the vga connectors on the monitor. No way to fasten. I had both directly under a small woven rug taped to the floor and at one point the extra monitor lost signal. In the future I guess I will tape the two together unless someone has suggestions?

yeah, I just purchased a 20" Used for the same reason. Tube tvs are cheap to get right now becuase of the digital switch.... great for us KJs

I was using a 21" for a monitor. I considerd using it for a crowd monitor too.

But once you use it for a computer monitor iit is hard to take back to the gig. For this project (I am tracing actual PC brds and drawing schematics) it is awesome and a godsend for this old man with bifocals..
BTW here is a finished product.

Getting back to your coax problem. There are converters. Vga>s-video; s-video>RCA; and an RF modulator will get you from RCA to coax

I just need VGA to VGA X 2. My splitter is VGA to VGA X 2 but with the screw pins on it, and the screw pins on the vga from the monitors, they can't screw into each other and can work loose.

I offered ways to avoid needing ur own monitor. I have same problem w/vga screws

Already bought and paid for the monitor. It arrived today, both fit on the same stand, I just to figure out how to secure it without it looking tacky. The big bright screen with compuhost scrolling marquee and videos looks very nice!

Many computer stores such as TigerDirect and NewEgg have VGA wireless transmitters. You can plug a receiver directly into the monitor and the transmitter into your computer... they even have ones with multiple receivers for multiple monitors off one transmitter.

This setup reduces trip hazard as well as potential equipment damage from bent pins to a computer on the floor.

I had heard this, but also heard issues with things getting in the way of the transmitter. Today my new 75 foot vga cable arrived. I will be hopefully out in front of the speakers this Thursday night.

I have the same issue with the screws, but they are tight fitting enough that they have never pulled apart on me. Maybe if you bend them in a tiny bit to make them fit a little snugger? I would hate to think of all that tape goo buildup after a few weeks of taping them together. Yuck!
