Hi all.
I won't get my laptop for another week or so. I have been ripping my disc to a hard drive. I am ripping them into MP3+G's. I am more than half way done doing my collection of 20,000 which includes my 2,100 Spanish and 1,000 Pilipino songs. Since I got a big hard drive, I see no point in removing duplicates by different manufacturers. I will use the song book feature that comes with CompuHost or Hoster to create a book, maybe. I currently have my book based on disc done in KJ Pro. I am hoping that the song book makers will give me a chance to reprint just by artist and title, single entry. I shouldn't need a disc and track number anymore in the new book, right?
My new laptop will have all the necessary horsepower and features to get the job done well. I am hoping for some information from people who use CompuHost or Hoster, or even better have exposure to both. I know the obvious stuff like they both have rotation playlist. Does one do it different or have positive or negative features the other doesn't? Stuff like that.
What ever I get it will be the latest version, so I don't need to know what it use to do, or problem it used to have. I only need information on the current versions. Obviously this is the interface between me, the music, and the singer, I want the best, so if Hoster is better, I don't mind paying the extra $40.
They both read MP3-G's, compressed zips, and bins, right? I also will use this for DJ and VJ gigs. I want to be able to do the obvious stuff like filler, and fades, but do they both play MP4's and AVI's so I can play videos too? I read past post, and know that moving licenses is no longer a problem for either.
Thanks in advance. I consider this a big decission, so I do appreciate it.

Test them both & decide for yourself. Both have downloadable demos so you can decide.
I prefer Hoster - which also plays the video files. CH does not as I understand.

If Hoster will play MP4's and AVI's, and CompuHost doesn't, then my decission is made. I definately want the ability to play videos like a VJ.

Well like I said, that was my understanding. The actual users might be able shed more light on if they play any video files or not. As far as mp4, not sure if Hoster will play those, it will play VCD, DVD, MPG, AVI, WMV, MP3, WMA and more formats - what the 'more' are I don't know. I have only used some of the basic extentions - mpg, avi, wmv for video.

Compuhost will play mp4 from what I have read. Haven't used them as I have none. The only way to play video from my understanding is through the video bits feature but I could be wrong. The only software I am aware of that will include video in the karaoke database is Siglos Professional.

I never play videos so compuhost does what I need it to do. I do have videos and I also have virtual DJ which will play videos and allow me to beatmix.

another option you may want to try is the PCDJ line of products.
I personally use the older PCDJ FX with the PCDJ KJ plug-in but it seems they have a new program called VJ that does audio / video / and karaoke as an all-in-one.
It looks like they have a downloadable demo as well... can't hurt to check it out.

I own Compuhost, and from what I see, you won't want to go the Compuhost route, because another issue is that Compuhost does NOT create your songbooks. It works in conjunction with Fasttracks V2 Songbook creator, which is sold SEPERATELY. I own both, and it makes the work a push of a button, BUT it costs. To ME, it was well worth the extra money, but that's me, you might not agree.

BUT the last I checked, they didn't have a "hoster" program, merely a player, with enqueue features. I do know they worked on addressing that, for those that wanted it, but It's been a few years since I honestly addressed it on their site!
