What's the best program to play karaoke songs from an external hard drive? I'm looking at Hoster and someone told me Virtual DJ works.

This is asked quite frequently, you may wish to perform a search on past discussions.

With that said, I use and prefer Compuhost, but since personal needs and preferences vary substantially, I'd recommend testing all of the demos and choosing the program that best fits YOUR needs!

Some of the most preferred Karaoke Hosting apps include..

CompuHost www.karaokeware.com
Hoster www.mtu.com
Sax and Dottie www.sax-n-dotty.co.uk (Winamp plugin)
KJAmp www.kjamp.com (Winamp plugin)
Karma www.latshawsystems.com

There are also others, so you may want to do a google search.

Good luck

Would this be for HOME USE or needed for proffesional shows?

The reason I ask is this -- There are some FREE programs out there that can play your karaoke file, display the lyrics on a 2nd screen and even do key changes.
these programs work GREAT for personal use. But if you need a program to HOST a show with ROTATION MGT and SINGER HISTORY and SCROLLING advertising screens or one that can play mp3+g zipped and wma files etc etc you SHOULD
DOWNLOAD some of the FREE demos and play around a little bit.

I use PCDJ KARAOKE PRO / LATSHAW SYSTEMS KARMA

Very simple and easy to use program

I have Virtual DJ, and YES it does work.

I bought that back in the day when I used to MIX & SCRATCH!
If your desire is to DJ and KJ, Virtual DJ provides some Nice Features.

If karaoke is your desire... Compuhost or Holster is the way to go.

winamp with the cdg plugin and pacemaker works just fine, and yes, I've ran pro shows with it.

Clubdjpro... I love it for the video and cdg mixing, limited EQ, but I honestly don't use the pc for the EQ... good key adjust, no rotation that I know of, and that's one reason I love it.

I have Virtual DJ. I would not use it for karaoke unless it was for home use and I already had the program. Not a cheap program!
