Hi Unmasked,
I have an old CAVS unit and my songs in that unit, are numbered in a five digit naming convention, but ".dat" extension [/img]is not CAVS. Unless you have a song book to decipher these (5) digit file names you will be doing it just as you surmised.
I would also like to add that just because you have a CAVS unit does not equate to piracy.
In order to load and play files on a Cavs hard drive machine (usb or internal) the files have to be numerically named (nothing else, just a 5 digit number). A book is your only road map unless the mp3 file is tagged.

Forgive Me Mrmarog,
Although your Original post omitted JB99, it expressed the 5 digit naming convention.
AN OLD EXPERIMENT!
I Too, have an Old CAVS unit, "
105G" and created a Disc with songs numbered in a five digit naming convention.
My Point is, If You Know What Your Doing:
the 5 digit naming convention can be used in the following CAVS units:
* JB 99/199
* 105G
* 203G
NOTE:
Where the 105G and 203G Songs can be manipulate,
The JB SERIES SONGS"
As You Stated" have to be numerically named (nothing else, just a 5 digit number).
A GOLDEN RULE:
ALWAYS CREATE A MASTER TEXT LIST BEFORE CREATING A NEW COMPILATION!
To Automatically Rename the Tracks, Simpy convert the Text list to a CSV file and use the new CSV file as a Database.
CDGFix Super Switch 'Em Around Any Way You Like...
Couple of Clicks, POOF! All files renamed automatically!
Kind Regards,
