Weird night. Started with a rotation of 18 and ended with a rotation of 3. What the heck is up with that?
Anyone else experience something similar?
This a first for me.
Was still a great night tho. Slayed them with 3 Journey tunes!

I've found that extremely busy nights die out towards the end because a lot of people don't like waiting through a really long rotation. My Friday and Saturday night show can get to 40+ singers and many people end up leavin and unfortunately for me it is usually the better singers and I am left with the Scaryokes for the last two hours.

Hmm....my Saturday night this week was like that too. Seemed to be lots going on, with a baseball game in town, the first NFL pre-season game for our team, and a big concert downtown. I think everyone was just tuckered out.

Saturdays are my wierd night. The batenders and I actually joke about it. It seems to be the night any thing can happen. I usually see a lot of new people and wierd characters come in on that night. I could have 40 singers or 6. I never know.

I've had the place start out extremely busy and end up empty by the end of the night. It usually happens within the last hour - hour and a half or so. I think a lot of people leave when they think their last song is sung. I have more people come in on a Saturday just to sing. Where on Fridays people are there to party all night. The funny thing is the people who stick it out actually get to sing more because everyone has left.

There are many reasons but the main ones are these. Singers are not heavy drinkers and when the outside smokers start giving cop reports like they are sitting across the street singers tend to leave early. Also some leave to to beat the late night rush at Denny's restaurant. Some have to work the next morning or have plans.

Remedies: Have drawings that they have to stick last call to win. Provide late night snacks and free rides to karaoke singers.,

We had an unusually large crowd at Denny's in Canby saturday night, and it stayed that way beginning to end, she even stayed an hour later to accomodate... makes for a fun night, but dang the rotation was slow. :crying2:

We had a visit from a policeman (no... wasn't about me this time, Lol) A young girl left earlier in the night and had had WAY too much to drink, so the policeman who gave her the DUI came in to pay the bartenders a visit about over-serving people. Not a usual occurence in our bar, but a good one I guess... lots of people started offering rides and looking out for their friends who were driving that night.

It happens to me all the time. Quite often, my first rotation is very short, maybe 5 or so singers. Then, we get swamped and until about 1:00, the rotation will be long. Then, the crowd thins out and the rest of the night is back to 5 or 6. That can be nice if the good singers have stuck it out. They enjoy it.

Then there are those nights like last night, when we have been dead all night until 1. Then everybody comes in and they all want to sing. It makes me so mad. I don't allow them to come in and dominate the show. I feel like I should cater to those who have been there since 9. It makes for a stressful last hour when that happens. It mostly happens to me on Sunday...go figure.

I like the shows that aren't too busy. I just go along to listen to my friends sing and I hate it when it takes so long for them to get to sing again. I wish I could buy them an extra turn sometimes so I wouldn't have to wait so long to hear them.

I had an upside-down night a couple of weeks ago. But there was a specific reason for it. There was a party for a regular that involved many of the singers. The party began in the late afternoon, so we started karaoke with a bang. But they'd all had it by one.

Practically every night starts slow and keeps building though. The round before the last one is usually the biggest but the last one normally is still over an hour.

Someone mentioned a karaoke conundrum in another thread. I think this fits the bill. People want to go out a get a lot of songs in but they also want a ton of people to be their to hear them sing. Rarely do you get both. At least at my venue. There's the rare night where the place is full but only a quarter of the custys are singing. I can have 20 people in the bar and a rotation of 20 singers. Add in the smokers that are outside and it can look like noone is there but the rotaion is still 20-30 large.

Paying off the KJ is a touchy subject here. Refer to the thread "Bribes for moving people up in the rotation". You'll see what I mean.

Our Monday night gig is just as you describe - looks like there's really "nobody" there and people walk in, think they're just going to go right up and sing 20 minutes before the end of the show... but the whole room is full of singers who've spent the whole night there. Doesn't look like many people but 20 people is a rotation that's over an hour long.

We have the upside down almost every Sat night. We start at 7 so it can be packed and then fade out around 9:30 as people go to bed, etc. Also we might get a visit from the pirates next door who send someone over to whisper about half price drinks in people's ears and they will clear out for a bit. Then we sing to ourselves for a while and think it is time to pack up and go early and we get a second flush around 10. The Friday hosts at our venue usually have the night that everyone dedicates to karaoke but on Sat there are free concerts in the park, raffles at the casinos and people want to mix it up a bit so we get more comings and goings.
