I never actually met Matt (Knightshow), but find myself grieving his passing. I'm wondering if others are feeling the same way. I only knew him through the forum for the past 3 or 4 yrs, but felt a strong connection.

The night I received the news I was very upset. When I went to bed that night I dreamt my father died and woke crying. I'm sure this was the result of getting news of Matt's passing right before I went to sleep.

The only other people, I know that know him, are here on the forum, so it is strange feeling this loss with no one to talk to that knew him.

So I started this post with that thought in mind. Kind of a memorial on line.

My first memory of Matt is that he was the one who helped me grow a back bone. LMAO He taught me you can't please everyone and you need to be stern with certain individuals when doing the type of job we do. His advice made me better and happier KJ.

I can remember joking about the backbone he gave me. I'd hope if he could see me from the place he is now I'd make him proud. Everytime I have to lay the law down by turning someones mic off I'll think of him. :D

I have been here for only a couple of months, but I'm grieving also. His death occurred at a time that was weird for me too. Three other people I have known from karaoke in some way have passed in the last 2 weeks, so it was sad to hear the news.

I admired his strong headedness here on the forum, and he didn't mind telling people what he thought. He seemed to be a very honest person, and I thought of his struggles finding a job often. (I think about lots of you guys in my day to day life now and some of the things we talk about here.) It's very odd to me to come on the forum and not read his posts anywhere. When I found out he passed, I went back and read some of the posts he made before he was a member. It is very sad, and I think others here share your pain, Babs. I think it's great that you started this thread and maybe others will post their fond memories of him also.

I get where you're coming from Babs. I was thinking along those lines yesterday, but would have felt a little foolish to post anything.
I didn't know him very long. I didn't know him at all really, but you didn't have to be here long before you would speak to him.
I had a brief conversation with him via pm only a couple of days before and there is still barely a thread on page 1 that he hasn't taken part in.

Its a strange experience when someone you only knew through your computer monitor passes away, and I say that with the greatest respect. Its hard to know what to make of it. I guess this kind of conversation must have happened on other web communities too.

I understand what you mean about that too. I felt sort of silly at first about how much it really saddened me. The only thing I could think that explained it is that although we only know each other "through our monitors" so to speak, we understand that we are still communicating our thoughts and ideas with other people. It is a community of people that live too far away from each other to have meetings to exchange things. But nonetheless, I think you still begin to feel some sort of connection to those who are here. At least I do. So it would make sense for us to feel saddened at the loss of one of our members.

I did have the pleasure to meet Matt & he was so much more than can be portrayed in the forums, even we had our disagreements, however there was never a bit of bad karma ever! As a matter of fact, I will be the first one to add a little humor with his love of joking sarcasm!!!!! :P

It was probably the pressure of being a KS moderator that took him!!!! Along with his favorites term....SHEEESH!!!!

One of the things that bother me most is we will never see that green light below his avatar and it will never say online again. I will miss him for a long time. Sat I will be singing and will dedicate a song to him. From someone who has sang with him. What song should I sing?

Matt's last posts.

Matt

Not sure what you like to sing but I love the song "When I Get Where I'm Goin" by Brad Paisley or "Live Like You Were Dyin" by Tim McGraw

Chuck just told me what happened. I have seriously got to spend some time here again. It's that feeling that your friends will always be there that makes us not take the time to check in once in a while, and now...Matt's gone.

I never got to meet him, either, but I knew I would "someday." So at least we're all left with the memory of his solid sensibility and sense of humor. Matt was a good, good person.

I'll be singing "Tears in Heaven" with him in mind.

Thank you all for posting. It's feels good to know I'm not the only one feeling the same way.

I never had the chance to meet Matt although a few months ago he had talked about coming to Oregon for a visit. It's a shame that will never happen. Although I had never met him, hearing of his passing hit me as hard as if he had been a local friend here in Canby. He seemed like a real down to earth guy that had many strong feelings on everything from karaoke to politics. You may not have agreed with everything he said but you sure could respect and understand his side of things. Sheeesh!!! LOL (in reference to his favorite expression) He'll be missed all right!

I've met several people over the years from the (now defunct) JOLT Forum, and I've met 1 or 2 of you folks from here as well. I've been one of the lucky people to have been able to meet Matt in person.

I've known Matt for at least 10 years (ONLINE from the JOLT Forum)... probably longer than that. I finally had the chance to meet him 3 or 4 years ago (for 1 day) in Las Vegas. He drove from Portland to Vegas and couldn't stay more than a day (because he had to get back). It was me and Beth (another JOLTer) and him. We had a lot of laughs, and, of course, went out for Karaoke.

As everyone else has said, Matt was a very passionate person (especially about Karaoke). He also was very sensative. Matt and I developed a very close connection to each other 7 years ago (when a friend of mine had died as we were getting ready to go home from a Karaoke show). Maryann was very timid, and Matt was one of the first people to warmly welcome her (with open arms) to the JOLT Forum (when she first popped in there). Matt had even helped her get her picture posted there. It wasn't much later that she had passed away. Matt's Birthday was on the last day of Mayann's life, and when he heard the news, he said that he would never be able to celebrate his birthday again. Well, I used to have a Memorial Dinner set up (for the 1st 4 years), and I used to have a "Designated Matt" at the table.... I would have the Waiters sing Happy Birthday to Matt. Matt would laugh about this when I told him what I did.

On the 5th year anniversary of Maryann's death (2 years ago), I had decided to surprise Matt by celebrating his birthday in person. Ruthie and I discussed it and made plans for over 6 months. I flew out from NY to MO to spend 4 days with them. When I first arrived, we couldn't have timed it better. I was in the parking lot of a Steak House, walking to the entrance as Ruthie and Matt were arriving. The look on Matt's face when he saw me was PRICELESS. He saw me approaching, looked at Ruthie and said, "Is that....", and Ruthie laughed and said, "Yes!". I had brought a whip with me, and threatened to crack it on him if he didn't enjoy his birthday that night. After dinner, we went out to his friend's (Kevin) show. Ruthie and I doused him in Silly String.... I have some pictures somewhere on my PC at home that I could probably e-mail if anyone wants to see).

I didn't get the actual news about Matt until I had gotten home on Saturday night (from doing a show). It had me saddened all day long. It brought back memories (from above) that put me in a sad mood. When I went out Sunday evening (for Karaoke), people could see that I wasn't my usual cheery self. I got up and sang "Wildflower" in memory of Maryann, and I was crying halfway through it. People came over to hug me. When I got up again, I tried to think of something appropriate to sing in memory of Matt, and came up with "Where Do I Go" from "Hair."

Oh my goodness Cueball. I'm crying like a baby now. You obviously had a very close connection to him. I'm so very sorry for your loss.

I'm glad you started this thread Babs. I too have had a rough time coming to terms with Matt's passing. Even though I had never met him personally, nor was I particularly close to him, he was a reliable staple on many of the sites I've been a part of over the past 6 years. Good ol' dependable Matt. When I first became a member here over six years ago, Matt was one of the first I got to know. Like many here, we shared many discussions in the threads and even tangled a few times. But we never held any bad feelings, ever.

It was good to see Matt show up over at facebook since I've not been very active here. There is a game on facebook called Farm Town that I'd been playing. Matt had recently started playing it as well. The application is still in beta and is REALLY full of bugs, it rarely ever works right. I recall Matt making the comment "I officially HATE Farm Town!" Then he had gone on to say that all of his crops had spoiled and he was broke. He was DONE with it! (the object of the game being that you grow crops and sell them for pretend money) I decided to visit his farm (farm's are basically little chat rooms)....and there was Matt, plowing his field. That was SO Matt. He wasn't gonna give up. I figured I'd let him harvest some of my crops, that way he'd make a little money (or points). I opened up the chat and said "Hey Matt! Wanna make some money?" To which he replied with mock shock "I'M MARRIED!!!! LOL!!" We chatted for a short time, just silly Farm Town stuff. Little did I know it would be the last time I would speak with him. A few days later I opened up facebook and went through the routine of reading everybody's status updates. When I read Matt's it started out with "I'm sorry to do it this way but..." and my first thought was, "what is Matt upset about now?" When I read on I realized it was Ruthie, passing the news of his death. I was stunned. Not Matt. That can't be possible. No no no.

I feel as though Matt was a neighbor of mine that I passed every day for many years with a smile and a wave. We shared some deep conversations about everything from music to politics to personal stuff. Even though we only knew each other online, I know who he was on the inside. He was a wonderful, honest, caring, feisty, passionate human being and I feel blessed to have known him.

I finally get some time to relax at the computer and I see this today. I am so sad. I guess I'll be looking up his posts to see that smiling face in his avy just for the memories.

I don't know how to do the copy & paste thing here but this is addressed to Lonman...

What I'm referring to is the passing of Knightshow.. I heard On my Facebook page that he passed away but then after reading some of the posts here & seeing all the laughing smiley's, I interpreted as possibly just a joke thinking that cause he changed user names & put the other user name to rest.

I'm still in the dark here & I mean no disrespect... I can't tell by reading the posts if it's true or not... I wish I had the time to read each post & analyze them but I hafta go to work.

Have a nice day,
Andy

You may want to read Bab's OP.
Matt is gone, ie He had a massive heart attack and never recovered from it.
