I'm with you on Dar Williams and would love to see a CD+G version of "Mercy Of The Fallen," though I've met very few people in the karaoke world who have even heard of her

October Project is another group that I like that I know no CD+G company would ever waste their $$$ on because the demand would be non-existent.

Virtually any older artist's recent albums are invisible in the karaoke world simply because they get little airplay and publicity and rarely chart. I wonder why certain songs, like the 3rd or 4th followup single to a particular band's one hit ten years ago, make it onto CD+G compilations (I mean really, who has ever sung Rush's "Nobody's Hero" or Semisonic's "Singing In My Sleep" at a karaoke bar.....umm, besides me, that is ) but then I discover that those songs hit the Billboard charts, even if only briefly, and then disappear never to be remembered again except by that band's diehard fanatics.

On the other hand, who remembers a Top 20 song from 1986 by Kansas called "All I Wanted?" It was their big comeback hit, but no karaoke version of that song was ever made (I know...believe me, I've looked.....I had to make my own Power Karaoke version that I play at home privately). Kansas hasn't played the song themselves in at least fifteen years, and it's rarely played on the radio anymore (very occasionally on out-of-the-way lite rock stations), but 23 years ago it was a big chart hit. But no karaoke version.

So who knows what the criteria really are? <shrugging shoulders>

Thank you so much for the references. As with the other referrals I've been fortunate to receive here and through IMs, it appears I'll be able to acquire at least some of what I’m looking for.

Those songs are actually from Neil's previous album "12 Songs". His latest album "Home Before Dark" is Neil's first ever album to go to #1 on the billboard charts.

Holly Holy is my favorite as well! I don't want to scare you, and you're not going to believe it: Backstage (Ovation), normally known to produce some pretty awful stuff, actually has the best version of this that I've ever heard! No kidding! Better than Sound Choice or Chartbuster!

Thanks for the head's-up. Yes, I do have that version, and it is good. I tend to buy most anything "Neil" just to see if I can find a better version. But I have always maintained that the DK Karaoke disc #1102 has to be the best (for me anyway). I know many don't care for the background melody, but I sing over it so it's not noticed. As a result, my Neil Diamond collection (with many dupes) is pretty close in size to my Elvis collection (not so many dupes).

It is not always demand for the songs that determines if a karaoke version gets made. It also depends on how demanding the song's owners are about their royalties rights.

For these songs it may be that Neil's management either asked too much or decided it was not worth the paperwork to allow a karaoke version to be made.

SBI is based in the UK and the laws there are a lot more permissive for karaoke to be made, and no prior approval is required to make karaoke, and royalties are a set rate.
