And that about sums up exactly what I was commenting on. (In ALOT less words that I could have said it)
My point in posting here was mainly to say, for myself, that I do not want any sympathy votes. I am really seeking honest opinions here.
I was not trying to be on the subject of what I do/don't comment & rank on, but more to say "Hey, I'm a good sport, so give it to me straight". I understand Dona's concern in my not dishing it back out, but, I would if I knew the person taking my comments really wanted my honest opinions, and could take them to heart without being offended. And it's kinda tough here to figure out who could take it & who couldn't until I've been around longer.
So...........
Let's all get back to singing.

Okay, BHB, I've put on my suit of armor & raised my shield, so fire away. I'm ready.
And, I know you can be brutally honest about reocrding quality, you have to me. But that's ok. Sound equipment is something I can change. If things get tuffer than I can handle, I'll let ya know.
But, really, I'm game for whatever advice would give me a better sound.
This is gonna get interesting, I think.
What a big ol' can of worms I opened up. No, wait, actually Allstar did.

Blue.. by now, I have a good idea on what most are capable of. Now i'm going to rate on the "Professional standard"
Even some of the "Best" vocalists don't get recording contracts.
Look at William Hung.
It seems everybody wants to be compared to "professionals" and wants to be torn apart so bad. OK... I too can play Simon Caldwell.
I have tried to be as constructive and positive as I could be.. the "Real" Professional world sometimes is not that way.
Please show me the very best song packages that you have.. 10's are soon going to be very hard to come by.
You want brutal honesty, You will get a 10 if you earn one.

Hey, look who's finally back, my favorite BeachHeadBum
Please show me the very best song packages that you have.. 10's are soon going to be very hard to come by.
Any way, Mr. BeachHeadBum. I took you up on your dare and would like to invite you cordially to look at the reviews I got.
I do though want to refer to your last posting here, and I quote
Quote: Now I'm going to rate on the "Professional standard" You are so vain. Gosh, why don't you just take a hit when it comes to you. You are not some karaoke god. Through this whole subject, you are trying to come back but every one here sucker punches you. Quote: It seems everybody wants to be compared to "professionals" and wants to be torn apart so bad. OK... I too can play Simon Caldwell. Now, why don't you go ahead and play Simon Caldwell????, you are trying to ride on my back when I said I am starting to feel like Simon Cowell from American Idol. Hated because he speaks the truth. . The problem is, we all know who real Simon Cowell is, not the fake Simon Caldwell who just wants to throw his weight around with his $1000 mics. I have tried to be as constructive and positive as I could be.. the "Real" Professional world sometimes is not that way. Oh, whatever. I thought karaoke was for fun, with positive critique. You make me You want to be professional, start with this. I stated Quote: I am not a vocalist, and never claimed to be one , every time you sub a song, you have an excuse. Professional people accept what comes to them. Quote: definally was ill when I recorded this (whatever definally means ) , Quote: Somebody had to sing it and Quote: .. my voice is shot..
Go and play in your extremely expensive studio, with your extremely expensive equipment. Do some more extremely wonderful mixes, for all the extremely highly rated competitions. This p*****ng contest is over.

Allstar,
As I have said many times.. and you keep on missing the point and on stepping around it. I am an Audio engineer, Not a "Karaoke God" I leave those things to (with all respect to) MV and Big Mike and the others who know they have it so good. I have the technology and know how to use it, not the voice.
Karaoke is done with Video.. I prefer to do it with a "LIVE" band.
But I'll sing with the better folks of karaoke anytime.
Allstar your attitude makes seperates you from them please turn off the video next time.
Thank You.

OK BSS has popped the question at me on her hubby's sub
"Long Black Train" How did I come up with the percentage of how far he was off on the vocals? Simple enough. I have 4 vocal tuners that i can and do use in the "professional" end of recording production, and presently all those tools are available to me 24/7. 3 versions of Antares ATR (vers. 2, 3, & pro producer) and the TC Electronics Voice Prisim.
AS well as the pc based models of the Antares models of all the above.
the pc based model of pro producer show a chart of the key (on the screen) of the base track and the vocals, any educated musician or engineer with basic music education can tell by a percentage as well as in the display of the new 2nd version (which I have) how far off the vocal differencial is from the key of the music. and it pretty much eliminates the guesswork. It's one of the best tools out there.. the only bad thing about it recording through them actually synths your vocals. not a great result.
re: web antarestech.com
The new ATR 4 is available for DX recording systems. I have NOT tried it yet.

Okay, I just read page 2 of this posting. That was NOT my husband singing "Long Black Train". You must have missread the person's name or something. My hubby has NEVER sub'd a song, nor would he EVER. ~lol~ I did post a comment on that song, but that was someone else entirely. No, you'll never hear MY husband on here, or anywhere else. He has no desire to sing.
Just wanted to clear that up, though I too was curious about how you get a percentage, you're thinking of the wrong person's sub & reply. I know who it was, but can't think of the name at the moment. Not me or my hubby though.

Evidently we are still having problems on this site with people thinking rankings are unfair... 3 words for you
Deal With IT
No offence but a singer is only as good as people think they are... i know plenty of pro singers i prefer never to listen to and TOM JONES is one of them ( waits for the flack from that ) but thats MY opinion... and we the public are the ones who makes the singers what they are ... like it or not if we didnt like something we wouldnt listen that simple ... apply that rule here ... nuff said and stop the whining about ratings...

Okay now - I'll give you some FLAK ---
TOM JONES! What! Why?
"It's not unusual to be Loved..."
Great tune - I believe Tomay did that and quite well, I might add.
I really like TJ but then that is just me. I like a lot of different music.
--- End of Flak ---
Check out my other post about ranking - (Everyone)
I'm seeking feedback on several issues in that post.

I back Phill on that one..
Tonmay (Tony) Did probably one of the best jobs of that songs I have ever heard other than seeing Tom Jones himself in concert!
It's probablly one of the 10 best perfermances that will ever grace this site.

Yes he did but he is not TOM JONES... and the difference is just that... i saw him in vegas one time that about made me sick.... sorry folks but i have had bad experiances with that and no i dont like him lmao but love the songs he sang by other people here... as i said its just a matter of preference ... not everyone loves the same kind of music or the same artists... and the point i was trying to make is that the public make the artis what they are.... without that there is nothing... everyone is entitled to their opinion right....

Tonmay's "It's Not Unusual" was not only one of the best performances on the showcase, it was one of the best performances chosen for the "That's Karaoke" edition #9 too Congrats, Tony!! /HUGS
Emma
Note: It's still my private opinion that his Quando Quando Quando is the very best I've ever heard

I agree with Laceyj. It's not always about how good the singer is it's about personal preference. I have a serious aversion to high notes. To me it's like fingernalis on a chalkboard. I used to frequent a place in California and there was a girl who sang very high. She had beautiful pitch and clarity and was considered one of the best singers to frequent the place, but it was hard for me to listen to her songs. It was nothing personal I prefer singers with lower husky tones No Mariah Carey........but that's just me.

LacyJ -
My last post was meant to be in jest... Sorry, if it upset you or anyone.
=======
We all have our preferences for types of music and singers. Our choices are our personal opinions and that is okay! Not everyone has to like what I like, You like or he or she likes... We are individuals Not clones!
=======
I didn't mean to stir up any waters with anyone!
Try to be funny and look how it turns out... Oops, better watch how I word things! It's that whole clear and concise thing that I miss on.

LaceyJ, BHBum,Phill,wannabe and Emma:
My dear friends, all of this caught me by surprise and just for the record, I am an innocent bystander.
To all of you I owe all my gratitude and the most heart felt thanks that I can give.
Lacey, I share your point of view and I believe most everybody at SS feels the same way you do.That is DEMOCRACY in full force. The great thing about it is that with so many singers, styles, genres, voices, etc...we can all have our prefered selection without having to put anybody else down for not liking what we like. There's always something for everybody and we can all get along just fine. Music's main purpose is to bring the whole world together in perfect harmony. Not for one second I thoght that you were refering to my Tom Jones submission.
In musical taste I'm one who enjoys all kinds of music because it is a way to expand my horizons. The only reservation I have is with non melodic negative RAP and loud screaming 3 chord progression HEAVY METAL. That's just me and my motto is "to each it's own" and also "live and let live".
I appreciate all the incredible support from you all and I promise I'll keep trying harder.
PEACE

I think too many of us are prone to get all caught up in cover tune performance. Great singers can be a dime a dozen without original material. The most important thing for those who take their music seriously is to write original songs. Everything else is fun and games.

I wish I had the talent to write songs. Unfortunatly I don't have the creativity. It is something I envy in people who have the vision for it. Someday I'd like to explore that option., but I have along way to go yet.
I don't agree with you, however that you have to write music to be serious about it. Singing cover songs and karaoke can be very challenging and there are a lot of us on this site who are trying to improve ourselves even if we can't create our own music. I think we can still develop our own styles. You don't have to sing a cover song exactly like the original. We all have something unique to add to the music that is available. Make no mistake, most of us are very serious about this.
