Do you guys use plain paper for song slips, or do you have any kind of advertising on it? I might branch out from the group of DJs I have been working with and do my own bookings soon. If I do, I thought about making song slips with my phone number, myspace, etc. on there and something like "private parties, weddings, blahblah" on them. I don't know the cost, but if it allowed me to keep my B-rig busy it would be worth $50/month in printing costs if I could get it for that much or less.

I am going to put stuff like that on my new song books as well of course, but people shouldn't take song books home with them.

Create your own request slips on MC Word/ Open Office, and you can put all your own advertising on there for free (your own printing costs). Don't tell anyone, but I print my request slips at work. Shhhhhhhhhhhh!

I have my company name, phone, email & website on the request slips - created myself through Microsoft Publisher, then I just print & cut them with a nice paper cutter I got through Office Depot. Chances are the people using them would already know it's karaoke so wouldn't need to put that service down. Could just add an extra blurb at the bottom, call for availability & pricing.

We have advertisement on ours. We've been doing this for about 7 years and never paid for a slip. We have a professional printing company making the slips and the advertiser pays for them. Our info at the top, theirs at the bottom. Here's a pic but it is a bit blurred.

What kind of advertisement is on yours? I meant to do as Lonman does and advertise myself. My partner gets Budweiser to print signs for him with Budweiser products and logo, but I don't have that relationship with the beer reps.

I try to put my business name, logo and website on as much stuff as I can, this includes my signup slips (unless I'm in a bind and then I'll use plain paper).

I printed my business card on the back of my slips for awhile. I loved the idea in theory, but the end result..didn't pan out like I had wanted. I ended up going back to blank backs. Biggest reasons were that I don't think that anyone even noticed the whole time I did it and I also like to turn the slips over and even write stuff on them. When the back was all taken up by the card, it made that impossible. I may start including a little more verbage on the front though...something else to think about. We are in the process of designing a logo..if all works out it will be present everywhere. Hhahahah.

I guess I don't see the point. Song request slips come back to YOU. Make business cards (a lot more durable) available in your books. I too like to write on the backs of the slips (saves paper).

Well the point was, in theory, that the 'cheap' card would be more readily available to anyone that wanted one. The slips are all over....could take one at any time without have to come up to ask for a card, even though they are also available...MrD

I have both in my books. What I've been taught over and over by marketing folks is that the more times they see your logo, business name and other information, the more apt they are to remember it. Also, I've seen my song slips left lying around or finding their way into people's pockets, etc. Just more chance that they may come across them later and be reminded of my business or that someone else may find them. It's all about exposure and retention.

I've often toyed with the idea of selling advertising in Karaoke Books
Local Businesses. - Copies of business cards or flyers in your books

The point is many people take these slips home. If they see contact info on a slip, they are more apt to grab one to get info about a show. I have cards too.
A slip with a company logo & some contact info also IMO look more professional than the slips that don't have anything on them bu 3 lines, or slips that have been hand cut from the back of old fliers or something else.

I use blank pieces of paper right now. Your point about printed slips being more professional is well-taken. It would also reduce confusion since people will sometimes give me slips without their name or otherwise confuse me, which means I have to be clever in getting the mystery person in a crowd of 150 to come back and clarify their request.

One day I will have a separate TV that displays the next few singers, too. I thought about having it show the whole rotation, but we get so busy on weekends that I would rather people come ask me individually than put up a list that lets everyone know there are 40 singers and there is little chance of them getting to sing more than twice.

Anyway, though, I thought about putting an advertisement on that TV also; and changing my Windows background (which shows on the lyrics screen before the song starts) to have something useful as well. I made a graphic for some special event once, a Budweiser cruise give-away I think; so I could put like "AVAILABLE FOR PARTIES & WEDDINGS" on there or something.

That's a great idea. I've never thought about putting a business card in my books. The backs of my slips become a new slip for the person who comes up to me and asks to sing a particular song. I go ahead and write it on the back of a spent slip. I'm all about printing and cutting as little as possible. I hate it. I even save slips for my regulars to help with paper waste. I save them in small receipt sorters that have dividers. Each singer has their own section. I only do this, however, for my VERY regulars.




I've also thought about this idea before. I live at the beach, so a lot of my customers aren't aware of businesses in the area. I think it may go over well. Has anyone else ever tried it?

Business cards in the books are good, but 99 out of 100 times they do not get taken & are either left in the books or left on the tables along with the beer spillage of the night. I have actually found more contacts from my slips than the cards in my books plus it's cheaper.

I thought about & even offered several local businesses that come in regularly the opportunity to advertise in the books for a year for like $100, there were no takers.
