In my song catalog by Artist, I have attempted to list every (known) duet under the heading duet rather than under the artist's name (first)
I love duets. There is nothing I enjoy more than seeing a bunch of people, particularly females, bouncing around on stage and having a great time with a duet or a sing along.
Last Saturday a gal came up to me and asked me to pick out a duet for her and one of the male patrons. I had the perfect song in mind. When they got up, she then informed me she wanted to sing Picture. It became clear immediately that the guy didn't even know the song. It also became equally clear that she was heading for a train wreck with that selection.
When the storm blew over, she informed me that they would do much better with their next effort. When that time came she requested PBTDBL. That was another train wreck, just longer
I hate duets!

Not a fan either. Usually one of the singers has no clue and someone asked them to sing a duet and then talked them into it even if they have never tried it. The song "Picture" is notorious for this. They don't realize that there is harmonies involved in that song and the guy usually butchers it.
What I hate about duets is that usually neither of the singers participating think that the duet should count for their turn. My policy is if you sing a duet it counts for the turn of both singers. After all, they are both singing.

What a lucky night you had. Re "Picture"--last night someone suggested to the couple that was about to do it that they switch parts. But the female said she didn't know the melody to the man's part so they didn't.........

I don't care for duets myself. I find it hard to sing with another person. Plus you do tend to get the same old songs like picture sung all the time and it's gets old.
However, I do love the Movie "DUETS"

Hello All,
Duets are great. IMO. I like doing them and often times girls will come up, want to sing a duet but their man doesn't sing .. so I become the logical choice. It keeps them happy and lets me sing w/out 'putting myself in the rotation'.
One key ... when you do a duet WATCH THE OTHER PERSON'S LIPS ... that will tell you when they are beginning to sing ... even if it's before they should and you can join in right along with them.
Position yourself in a way you can keep one eye on their mouth and the other on the monitor behind them if you don't know the words

That's a good method Acclaim, i also listen closely and take my cues from them. I try to follow them. If you sing with them often, it gets easier.
There is nothing worse than 2 people really screwing up a song, unless it's 3 people.

They should use that song at Gitmo with two bad singers.

The thing I hate the most about duets is that they are usually a vocal-mixing nightmare. Most of the time, each singer keeps trying to sing louder than the other to hear themselves more in the mix, and the continuous battle forces me to be at full attention to continuously mix the vocals.
If it were not for that, I think I would take a walk outside during every duet, because 90% of them are just horrible!!

a majority of the time DUETS are a train wreck musically!!!
But what they usually do is get a singer on stage who normally wouldn't get up by themselves. If not taken too seriously DUETS can be loads of FUN for the crowd.
And isn't that what it's all about anyway ??

On duets I put The EFX on the mixer to chorus and turn up. The mic levels are then not that critical and overall it is better.
