What type of stain did you use on the wood paneling?

Believe it or not on some dry paneling or wood I have applied ATF (automatic transmission fluid) Then used a more common stain. I never use a darker stain than the original. Now we are talking about something I might get serious about

I think the original coat was Adobe or paintshop...
