I dealt with that a couple years ago also. I had been slowly, over a few months time, losing my range and getting a smoker's rasp (and I don't smoke at all) ...... I was also getting up at night vomiting, and losing a lot of weight. Needless to say, I thought sure as anything I had some kind of throat cancer.
I was surprised when the doc said it was acid reflux, making me sick at night, and burning my vocal chords. Dammed acid does it's nastiest work while you're sleeping. I did Prevacid for a few months and it went away, now when it acts up I just take it a week or so and I'm good.
Stay the HECK away from orange juice. I'm a huge OJ drinker (rather, i was) and it was a while before I figured out it was a huge trigger. As was coffee and alcohol.
I've given up the OJ and alcohol, now if I could just kick this dang coffee habit, I really don't think I'd ever get it back. It seems to be when I have a cup every day for a couple weeks that the AR will creep back in.
While it's bad, it helps a ton if you sleep with your head and chest on an incline. I literally had about 6 pillows propping me up.... or slept in a recliner chair. And a cup of milk & piece of toast a couple hours or so before bedtime seemed to help me too.
*No major greasy or spicy stuff (taco meat and spaghetti sauces are a thing of the past, can no longer eat hot salsa at all)
*Not lots of coffee
*
No OJ
*Limit the alcohol
*Quit nicotine if you use it (any form)
*If you get stressed easy, learn to pick up a baseball bat and get your anger out instead of letting it boil inside you and keep you stressed out (seriously, I was going through a rough time, and every argument I had, I'd literally end up vomiting by the end, it was pathetic)
Rather than take your med in the morning, take it a few hours before bed, but on an empty stomach. (seems to help better at night that way, when it's worse)
Ok, doc Charmin out:)
Good luck, that stuff is awful, if it gets bad enough.
