Every few yrs I see a crowd change over. Being in the same venue for yrs it is interesting seeing things evolve. I seem to lose my older crowd when they retire and move away. Lots of them come back to see me time to time, but live to far away now. I lose the younger ones when they settle down and get married, have kids. They too will come back for visits, but are to busy raising a family to go out anymore.

It seems I have a newer group now. It's a mix of all ages still, but I have a big group of twenty somethings I just adore. They sing new fresh songs and are very respectful. I think the younger kids get a bad rap. Sure I've had the random wild ones, but they don't seem to become regulars. I've had more of my older people give me a hard time then the younger ones.

Babs our younger singers out here are those that grew up with a karaoke machine. Also a bunch of Kansas farm kids out here going to school. They are polite, not demanding and their main goal isnt singing karaoke. It attracts them but most dont even care if they sing every rotation. I'm on the cell skip me!! OK.

They are experienced singers that contribute to the show and provide energy. But they are out to socialize and have fun. They request dance music just as much as everybody else. The oldtimers get used to this and get involved in the fun and get too busy to worry about sitting there impatiently waiting to sing their next song. These types are becoming a thing of the past. Karaoke is only a part of our format. When we do have a big rotation and switch back to a regular karaoke format people get bored and the energy level drops.

There is a new generation coming to karaoke bars now and they are setting new trends and sooner or later all venues will have to adapt to these young people. Go with it Babs.

Good one Jam. I have had a few obviously military kids respond, "Yes ma'am" to my queries. I love it.

My Thursday gig is all mature people with families -- mature not necessarily meaning old. But a large group of excellent singers who bring their adoring fans with them. It's a dream come true gig for me. A less than stellar singer is the exception. After all these years of hosting it's nice to just enjoy great singing. I'm not sure why they've landed at my show - could be that we've enjoyed singing out under the sun and stars all summer - one more week is all I'm asking for as our big contest is next week and there is no venue in this little town that could seat everyone who'll no doubt be there for that. I'm calling around today for celebrity judges - years of connections to the live music community really helps me here.

We do have a large percentage of our Monday night crowd who have moved away, changed jobs or shifts, gotten too many DUIs to even think about driving, had children, have to stay away from relationship wrecks, etc. I always analyze the situation when I think one of our gigs is slowing down - these are the reasons I've noticed this time around. Takes a while to rebuild when a place has been populated by the same people for a long time...but a few people at a time.

May have picked up another night, too - someone heard about our show and came to check us out. Not sure I want another night but it's pretty hard to say no. Have to review the venue, the management, etc., before I say yes.

I have seen it like clock work every few years. Party when they are single, quit coming when they get married and have kids, come back after their divorce and start all over again. It's the "karaoke life" cycle.

I've always found this to be true. Older singers often treat you like a waiter or something. Younger singers treat you like someone cool.

My crowd completely changes every few months. About half (maybe more) of our business are Sailors and Marines from the two bases nearby. One is a training base so once they are done with school and get shipped out I don't ever see them again. It sucks because I lose friends so often to the Navy, but it's great for their lives and our country and as soon as they leave I get a fresh batch of new people to befriend. I'm hoping one day when I'm 80 I will run across some of them and we can chat about the good ol days at Boomerzzz.

I hate it when older KJs decide to go out of the business and new KJs are in. Just not the same.
