This happens quite often and I just wanted to see how you would deal with it. My booth and stage are about 25 feet away from each other so when I sing I usually just sing from the booth. Every once in a while I will get someone that comes to the booth and wants to ask if I have a song or something of the like right in the middle of my song. I don't like ignoring them but don't want to just stop in the middle of my song either (since I rarely get to sing) so I usually ask them to wait 1 minute as absolutely polite as I can. About half the time they will wait, others just walk away... What would you do in this situation?

The impolite will continue to try to talk to you and the regulars with tact will wait. I have the same thing happen, it is just what it is. Keep singin', that what I do.

I even have them try to interrupt my song when I'm NOT at my station and singing on stage! People can be very self-centered and rude!
I just hold up 1 finger, continue singing and walk away.
Sometimes I will get "ooohh! Sorry!"in response, as if they didn't know I was singing! WTF??!!! Some peoples' children!
But then, what would sarcasm be without stupid people?

I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't in the wrong for asking them to wait. I try not to sing too much. I get requested quite a bit but if I have 30-40 singers I try to shy away. Too many people get pissed when the wait to see is over an hour long and the DJ sings =p Damnit, my mouse batteries are dying!

When i did host i would have that issue nightly. I would just chane the lyrics to the song. People get a giggle out of it.

That's exactly how I handle it. If they walk away, I just ignore them until they come up when I am able to assist them.

If they have a song slip in hand I smile, nod my head and take the slip. If they try and talke to me, I just smile and hold up one finger. This works MOST of the time. :)

I use my index finger, but to be honest, there are times when I wish I could use another, notorious one! LOL

LMFAO! I'm so going to try that tonight!

I'm always insistent on singer requests being on paper, so most people who approach me while I'm singing are handing me paper. I nod and smile. And sometimes I even manage not to lose it before the end of my song.

When people actually try and talk to me while I'm singing, I just look at them like they're nuts, or move away from them while singing. I don't have a stage, and tend to roam around the bar while I'm singing anyway.

LMAO It seems like the Finger Method is widespread.

If they walk away I'll try to find them when I'm done to see what they wanted.
